Dear Friend,
Whatever you want to do, you need skills. Some skills are easy and can be learned quickly. Only learn them once and never worry about them again. Riding a bike, tying your shoes.
Some skills take a long time. The longer the time, the more uncertainty. Because we silly humans haven’t yet learned how to predict the future, this opens up a few problems.
What Skills?
It’s not a secret that plenty of people are graduating college with debt they may never pay off. This is a terrible situation. Every single one of these kids borrowed a ton of money to learn skills that they may never need. Skills that may never earn them enough money to pay off their debt.
Not Always Like This
Once upon a time, life was pretty easy. Show up, keep your head down, do what you’re told, and you’d earn enough to make a living. Find a partner, have a family, and sit back and relax every weekend.
This system worked for hundreds of years. But as you likely know, our economy, our world, our society is a critical point. Just showing up and doing what you’re told might work if you want to be a porn star or work in a fast food joint, but not for much else.
Skills and Meta Skills
To make things even more difficult, some skills are direct. You learn them, and you can use them for one thing. Playing the piano, juggling eggs without breaking them.
Meta skills are more widely applicable. Cooking skills. Persuasion skills. Studying and learning skills. The more of these meta skills you pick up, the better you’ll do.
Meta Skills are Never Ending
One of the biggest myths of meta skill is you can learn them to the point of being “permanent.” These only work with simple skills like riding a bike, tying your shoes, or making toast. The most important skills have many, many levels of competence.
Four Levels
You’ve no doubt heard about this. Unconscious incompetence, when you don’t know that you suck. Conscious incompetence when you know that you suck. Conscious competence when you don’t suck, but if somebody starts talking to you, you’ll suck. Then the final and most coveted level, unconscious competence.
This is when you perform the skill well without needing much of your conscious brain. When you can just relax and perform on auto pilot. But here’s the thing. Each skill that is worth doing will have unlimited levels of unconscious competence.
Musicians and Athletes
Anybody who makes a living in sports or the performance arts knows that if you don’t keep practicing, you’ll fall behind. These masters of their craft know that the more they practice, the better they get. They more they practice, the higher their level of unconscious competence.
For example, you might be unconsciously competence to plink out “chopsticks” or “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on the piano. But how much practice would it take to learn to play Chopin or Beethoven? Plenty!
Meta Skills To Unconscious Competence
This is true for skills, and this is true for meta skills. No matter how good of a salesperson you were, you would always need to keep your skills sharp. No matter how healthy you were, you wouldn’t ever think you were done exercising.
The Ultimate Meta Skill
There is one meta skill to rule them all. And this meta skill takes into consideration the one thing we don’t like to think about. The one thing our political overlords want us to forget. The one thing that is the most important thing to spur you to success.
There Is Always Competition
No matter what it is you want, somebody else also wants it. If you want a decent job at decent company, you’ve got to convince them to hire you instead of every other goof. If you’ve got your eyes on your dream girl or guy, guess what? So do a bunch of other slobbering idiots.
One Skill To Rule Them All
If there is one set of meta skills that will allow you to prevail, it is the long game. Whoever has the longest game, will win. Whoever plans their moves the furthest out, will win. Ever wonder why, or how, our political system was captured by corporatists and bankers? Easy.
Politicians play the short game. They have to. The longest game they can play is within any given election cycle. CEO’s, bankers, and corporatists? They can think in terms of decades.
Checkers vs. Chess
A common metaphor is that one guy is playing checkers, while the other guy is playing chess. Why is this? Because checkers is for short game thinkers. Chess is for the long game.
Always Have A Backup Plan
We love movies where the good guy outwits the bad buy by having a super secret backup plan that he pulls off right at the end. It’s pretty obvious that having a backup plan is better than crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.
How To Develop The Long Game
The collection of skills and practices that go into the long game is the only set of skills that are guaranteed to help you. Romance, career, finance, health, spirituality, everywhere you want anything, having a solid set of long game skills will help.
Mental Practices
You’ll learn some simple ideas and concepts that will get you going. Things to do on a daily basis. Simple observational exercises that will help you slowly shift your view.
Powerful Paradigms
You’ll learn some very powerful models that will be confusing at first. And they may be hard to accept. But if you can wrap your mind around these ideas, and try them on, you’ll understand the world and human behavior with stunning clarity.
See The Real Truth
You’ll know exactly why human behavior, and the reasons we do things, can seem to be shrouded in mystery. You’ll be able to pull back the curtain and see the harsh reality. But once you do, you’ll see the rules of the game. With more clarity than any of your competitors.
Not Any Pill Colors
This goes way beyond any trendy metaphors of pills of various colors. You’ll learn about the ancient truth of humans, and how we are in a very, very powerful point in human history. Most people are going to get clobbered. You don’t have to.
What Happened?
A tiny minority of people make things happen. A slightly larger watch things happen. The huge majority, everybody else, watches dumbfounded and asks, “What happened?” Get this guide and learn the truth, and leave uncertainty behind.
Daily Exercises
These exercises should be done every day until the day you die. If you are looking for a quick fix, this ain’t it. It may take a couple of readings to wrap your mind around these ideas and figure out your own daily schedule, but once you do, you’re on your way.
Increase In Daily Vision
The more you do these exercises, the more you’ll see the long game in real time. Like a master chess player who can see all the possible permutations. You’ll be able to see more and more, and respond quicker and quicker.
Wait By The River Long Enough
The Chinese have an old saying, that if you wait by the river long enough, you can see the bodies of your enemies floating by. You can sit and wait if you want, or you can learn some real skills to get in the game of life. Not just to play, but to dominate.
Everybody Wants Some
Everybody wants the good things in life, but a precious few ever achieve it. That’s because it requires consistent action. A consistent increase in skills. A consistent ability to see things happen further and further out in the future, so you can plan for every potential.
Play To Win
Life is a game, but many refuse to play. Many have swallowed the false myths of being patient and waiting for the rewards. If you want to accelerate your success, if you want to get the things most don’t, then you’ll need to do the things most are not willing to.
Conquer Your World
Since you’ve read this far, you know you are destined for something other than waiting patiently. You know there is much more for you than what you’ve gotten so far. This guide will show you the way. it will re-calibrate your mind to see things the way they are. And teach you the skills you need to get as much out of your life as you can.
