I used to have this job as a model scout. It was pretty good, while it lasted.
I’ve explained in a previous email why I ended up quitting, because in reality it was a big con.
Bilking people out of their money might seem like a fun idea, but in real life it feels pretty lousy.
But before I knew it was a con, it was pretty awesome.
Let me explain.
The job was to simply go out in public, and approach as many people as possible, and try to get them to come in to the office for a photo shoot.
Now, this was a legitimate office, with legitimate photographers, studios, etc.
Business cards, the works.
Now, if you were to simply go out there and approach all the cute girls you saw, and asked for the number, you may get a huge mix of responses. Some girls would be into it, some girls would tell you to get lost, some girls might even flat out laugh at you.
Which is why few guys can do this on a regular basis.
But I had something on my side that made almost every girl I approached eager to talk to me.
Authority.
Authority is some kind of a magic mind meld which automatically puts most of us into a hypnotic trance.
Some guy says “excuse me,” from behind you. You turn around, and see a homeless guy, and you’ll ignore him.
But you turn around, and see a cop, or a doctor, or somebody in a uniform, and you’re all ears.
So when I approached these girls, and said, “Hi, I’m George, I’m from XYZ modeling agency,” and then handed them my card, they were all ears.
All fear vanished, and their body language suddenly shifted to open and eager and interested.
Eyes open, mouth smiling and hopeful.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Pretend you’re a model scout to pick up girls. Sounds a bit on the creepy side.
Yea, that would be creepy.
But you CAN exhibit plenty of authority just through your language, your confidence and your demeanor.
And this kind of authority is much more powerful, because it’s covert, rather than overt.
It’s based on emotions, rather than business.
The even better good news is that authority is only one of plenty mind triggers than you can use, in pretty much any situation, to get people to sit up and take notice.
Guys, girls, bosses, whoever.
