The thoughts you think on a regular basis will shape the nature of your external reality. Most people get this on a instinctive level, but few people take the consistent action required to actually affect change out in the world.
Now, besides any vague “law of attraction” statements like, “your thoughts create your reality, or “thought are things,” there is really no other way about it.
Think about this. Once upon a time, there was nothing on this Earth except for animals and nature. Slowly but surely humans (and a few other animals) started using tools. Sure, maybe they stumbled upon them by accident.
Maybe the first caveman threw a rock at an approaching tiger out of fear, and then accidentally brained it to death.
But everything else that happened after that first happened in the mind, as an imaginary thought, before it became reality. At the same time, this seems incredibly mundane and extraordinary.
Every single thing around you was first a thought. Somebody saw something, had a better “idea” about how to make it, and then set about making it.
They used language to convey their ideas to others, and collectively, groups of men and women have been building our society ever since.
Positive Thinking Leads The Way
You want to change your life? First change your thoughts.
Consider the guy who doesn’t have a girlfriend. His thoughts center on lack, self consciousness, shyness, imaginations of girls rejecting him.
So he goes out, and guess what? His thoughts create those events that he imagined. He’s self conscious, his feelings of lack manifest themselves as rejections he undoubtedly gets when he approaches a girl.
On the other hand, consider who truly believes, rightly or wrongly, that he’s super attractive, humorous and has got a lot to offer plenty of women. His mind is filled with nothing but pictures of success.
Self Fulfilling
He goes out, and has a completely different result.
As I’m sure you know, these could be two twin brothers, who get completely different results.
Will change your thoughts right now change your life? Not hardly. It takes considerable time, effort, and practice.
If it were so easy, everybody would be living the life of Riley. But we’re not.
Why not? We’re lazy. We’ve been conned by politicians, advertisers and the media to expect instant results.
But I can guarantee you those folks who are consistently earning more wealth, enjoying better relationships, and feel they are living the dream, got there because they consistently thought thoughts that got them there.
They’ve been thinking them for years. Perhaps even years before they saw any results.
This is why ideas like “the law of attraction” and many of the principles taught in “Think and Grow Rich” seem like total hogwash. We try them half-heartedly for a week or two, and when we don’t see instant riches, we figure it’s a big con job.
The Real Con
The only con job is the idea that it will happen overnight.
So, what do you do? Start today. Begin thinking of what you want, rather than what you don’t want. Think of your past successes, rather than your past failures.
This won’t be easy, and this won’t be automatic. The brain is hard wired through evolution to drift towards feelings of danger.
You’ve got to consciously remember to think in terms of what you want, how you want to get there, and as much evidence from your past as you can recall.
What’s that? You don’t have much success in the past? So what. Make some up. Your brain won’t know the difference, and the thought police aren’t going to come and arrest you.
Bottom line is that it’s up to you. Nobody else. If you keep letting your brain think whatever it wants to on its own, it’s going to keep thinking those same thoughts of lack and failure.
But if you want to create the life you know you can, then you’ve got to consciously keep GOOD thoughts in your mind as often as you can.
