Daily Struggle
Consider a bunch of cavemen a hundred thousand years ago.
This might not be easy, since we don’t live in the caveman days.
A lot of people like to pretend we AREN’T still cave people.
Our instincts have not changed much over the past couple hundred thousand years.
So it’s very useful to think in terms of “what would a caveman do” in many situations.
Anyhow, back to the ancient group of dudes.
Let’s say they’ve been tracking a wooly mammoth.
And they decide they’re close enough to kill it.
So they all “compete” to come up with the best plan.
Why do they compete?
Because when they finally make it back to their tribe, EVERYBODY is going to know who the alpha is.
Alpha Reward
The ancient QB that all the other dudes respect.
The one who gets most of the love from the tribe.
Anyhow, what would be the emotional state of this “idea contest?”
Not violent, not angry, no underhanded put downs.
Very much like a group of professional engineers “competing” to see who comes up with the best design solution.
If you are an engineer, working with a bunch of other engineers, and somebody ELSE comes up with a better idea than you, you don’t kill him or plan revenge.
You genuinely think, “Damn, that’s a pretty good idea. Well played, sir.”
This is very much how ancient humans played the “idea contest” when deciding how to best kill the wooly mammoth.
So, how specifically, would any one guy win?
One is he has to actually HAVE the best idea.
Two is he has to have a best idea that he BELIEVES is the best idea.
Three is he’s got to assertively persuade the other guys that his idea is better.
Opinion Death Match
Today, arguments are rarely like this.
Back then, whoever wins the idea contest is the alpha, sure.
But EVERYBODY wins.
Everybody’s hungry.
And since they have a mutually agreed upon outcome, there are no:
“Yeah, but what about this other thing…”
They ALL want the same thing.
They ALL want to get the same thing that will benefit EVERYBODY.
They ALL want to get back to the women, the kids, and the retired cave people.
ALL waiting for them.
But that internal mindset is critical.
To understand the situation.
The reality of the situation, now the way you WISH it were.
Outcome Generation
The best way to GET your outcome.
To be confident in how you’ll get your outcome.
And to assertively and persuasively communicate this to others.
Most people have NO IDEA what their outcome even is, let alone have any idea how to get it.
Most people wander through life blaming others and waiting to be told what to do.
Not you.
You know what you want.
You know you’ll get it.
Sure, it may take a while.
But you will not give up.
Carry this mindset, and people will follow you.
