The brain is an amazing organ. One that scientists won’t fully understand for several generations, at least.
There’s this thing called a “pre-conscious filter,” and it’s the part of our brain that decides what gets presented to our conscious, “aware” minds, and what gets stored in our subconscious.
There’s a few million bits of information hitting our senses every second, but our conscious mind can only handle about 40 bits.
If we consciously were aware of even a couple hundred bits, let alone a couple million, we wouldn’t be able to function. We’d crawl into a corner and babble ourselves silly, drooling like a rabid dog.
So how does our pre-conscious filter decide?
One is it picks out things based on safety. If you saw a tiny cockroach or mouse out of the corner of your eye, you’d likely jump up on your chair. Evolution has taught us that cockroaches and mice are signs of deadly germs and disease, so our brains react with fear when we see them.
Other things, like sexually attractive people, bright colors and smells trigger our pre-conscious filter, because they also help us survive.
Then there’s the “red car” effect, or the “pregnant lady” effect. Whatever’s important to you, your brain will naturally pick it out of a crowd.
Now, most people are aware that these filters exist, but have no idea how to leverage this incredible system for massive and lasting success.
In order to do that, you’ve got to program your goals, on a continuous basis, into your brain.
Think about it this way. If you haven’t eaten in a while, you’re hungry. You’ll likely pick out restaurant signs, pictures of food, names of food, etc., more likely than if you’d just eaten.
When your brain realizes you want something, and want it bad, it will start pointing out potential opportunities to get it.
It will take that steady stream of information, and sort through it based on what you’ve told it to look for.
How do you tell it what to look for?
Strong visualizations of what’s important to you. Stacks of money. Gorgeous girls (or guys) begging for sex. A big office with lots of responsibility. A big home. A nice car.
Anything, really.
Just figure out what you want, make a few pictures, and practice making those pictures in your head, and feeling that strong feeling of “want.”
Your pre-conscious filter will get the message, and start the hunt.
