Sometimes reality can be incredibly confusing, and the models we construct to describe it don’t work on so well.
If our models, or our maps of the world fail us, we tend to blame reality, rather than re-configuring our maps.
One of my favorite stories of physics is “black body radiation,” which gave rise to quantum physics back in the 1920’s.
A few of the smartest scientists whoever lived, (and who might ever live) were sitting around trying to figure out this problem. (You might have heard of them: Einstein, Neils Bohr, Max Plank, and a couple others).
Anyhow, they had this problem. They’d heat up this “black body,” and then measure the energy distribution as it cooled down.
Problem was that the curve, when plotted vs time, didn’t match any of their models.
Now, did they blame the black body? Did they think that physics was somehow rigged against them?
Or did they simply change their model, and try again?
You guessed it!
Neils Bohr tried and failed. Einstein tried and failed. Finally Max Plank (still in his twenties) came up with a radical theory.
One that said energy, on a basic level, doesn’t radiate the way they thought it did. They were all bewildered at his new idea, is didn’t match what they’d thought “reality” was like in the least.
But it worked beautifully.
Imagine that. Seeing that the world doesn’t behave in the way you want, and all you’ve got to do is change your understanding of the world.
Then just keep revising, until it’s easy to predict what’s going to happen. Because once you can predict what’s going to happen, there’s plenty of magical things you can build.
Relationships, careers, families, friendships, whatever you can dream of.
Luckily, you don’t need to learn quantum physics to do so. All you’ve got to do is learn some of the most powerful language patterns ever created.
Originally designed to overcome sales objections, and turn a reason NOT to buy into a compelling reason to pull out a wad of cash, these can be used to change ANY belief.
