Scrambled Egg Theory
What is confidence?
There’s contextual confidence.
There’s meta-contextual confidence.
Then there’s meta-meta confidence.
When people say, “be confident,” they are referring to “meta-meta confidence.”
First, contextual confidence.
Let’s say you’ve never made an omelette.
And you have no idea how.
All you can do is scramble eggs.
Scrambling eggs you could do confidently.
Making a perfect omelette, not so much.
So imagine that you’re in a bar.
And a super sexy dream lover leans over and whispers in your ear:
I Should’ve Studied Cooking
“If you promise to make me an omelette in the morning, I’ll do anything for you tonight….”
This would cause anxiety, since you have no clue how to make an omelette.
What should you do?
Tell them you’ll try?
Lie and say sure, and worry about the consequences later.
But suppose, instead of omelette, they said scrambled eggs?
Zero anxiety.
Scrambled eggs?
Yeah baby!
This would be an example of contextual confidence.
Confident in your ability to make a SPECIFIC dish.
What would be meta-contextual confidence?
I Can Cook Anything
Confident only in cooking one particular dish, but confident in general cooking skills.
So of that same lover said, “If you cook me something delicious for breakfast…”
That would give you the, “Yeah, baby!” response.
So, what is meta-meta confidence?
Confidence in your abilities in very many different areas.
Not just in doing, but in quickly learning HOW to do.
For example, you learn to cook a lot of things, and get meta cooking confidence.
You’ve learned how to use a lot of different software, and you’ve got meta-software confidence.
You’ve been investing successfully for a while, and you have meta-investing confidence.
You’ve had plenty of happy conversations with plenty of people, so you have meta-social confidence.
You’ve brought back plenty of happy lovers back to your place, so you’ve got meta-seduction confidence.
Two Core Skills
So, meta-meta confidence is a combination of two things.
A lot of meta-contextual confidence.
And a “handling unexpected things and coming out ahead” confidence.
So even if you have NO IDEA what is going to happen, because of all the previous things you’ve become competent with, this next thing, that you don’t yet know, will soon BECOME one of those things you have become competent in.
Most of the time, this takes a while.
A lot of time learning a lot of different things.
A deeper yearning to learn and experience new situations.
But what if you don’t have that experience?
You can build it in.
All those things exist as MEMORIES in the mind of the meta-confident guy or gal.
And you can BUILD in memories that you want.
Either by changing the meaning of past events, or changing the past events themselves.
Kind of like “priming the pump.”
First, change a few of those past memories.
Next, those memories drive new behaviors.
Those new behaviors create NEW positive memories.
And you’ve got a self-sustaining, positive confidence feedback loop.
