Grandmaster Theory
I have a friend who has a very interesting hobby.
He plays chess, but in a very unique way.
He has this chess software on his PC, and this chess software is hooked up a huge database.
This database has every game every played.
So he’ll watch a game, for example, that was played between a couple of grandmasters from the 1800’s.
Imaginary Helper
And he’ll imagine he’s actually watching them play.
And one of them is coaching him.
There’s a problem solving technique called borrowed genius.
When you have a problem, but don’t know the solution.
Hallucinate The Solution
You close your eyes and slowly walk.
While you are walking you talk about the problem out loud.
And then you imagine you are coming up behind an expert.
A fictional or historical genius.
And right when you get behind him, you exchange heads.
Borrowed Brain
Now you’re talking about the problem with their head and their brain.
One of my favorite shows is Six Feet Under.
A well written drama about a dysfunction family that owns a funeral home.
Frequently dead people will appear and talk to them.
But they aren’t ghosts.
They are imagined dead people from the characters.
I See Dead People
So the characters can imagine ideas from their own brains, but spoken through the dead people.
There was a scientist working on a marketing device.
It was for a company that had a lot of government contracts, and therefore a lot of government money.
So he had a lot of leeway with the types of things he could work on.
He had an idea that all of our problems have similar neurological structures.
Neurological Puzzles
And all of the corresponding solutions have similar neurological structures.
And he spent a lot of time categorizing both sides of these problem-solution states.
His theory was that when a problem structure meets a solution structure, it creates an exothermic neurological reaction.
Like in chemistry.
Two atoms join together and can co-exist a lower energy state.
So they give off energy.
Origins Of The Aha Feeling
This is why when we have a problem, and we finally get a solution, we get a burst of mental energy.
That’s the exothermic reaction.
After he catalogued all the problem and solutions states he built the machine.
Once you hooked it up, all you had to do was to focus on the problem.
Any problem at all.
Magic Problem Solvers
And the solution would instantly appear.
This was a device that could solve any problem that any human could hold in mind.
Mathematical problems.
Physics problems.
Quantum gravity problems.
Time travel problems.
Wormhole creation problems.
Off Limits To Riffraff
Needless to say, the government took it and won’t ever let this see the light of day.
Some of the greatest wisdom can come from dead people.
Especially if you can hallucinate dead people as a way of getting access to other parts of your brain.
You can also start typing your problem.
And imagine the fictional or historical figure is coming up from behind you.
Make Them Do The Work
And they swap heads with you, rather than you swapping heads with him.
It still works the same way.
My friend says he pretends his sitting next to an imaginary grandmaster.
And the imaginary grandmaster asks him what move he should make.
My friend thinks and guesses.
Nice Work!
If he’s right, the grandmaster congratulates him.
If he’s wrong, the grandmaster explains why.
He actually sets up a chess board and imagines all the people are there.
Which is a great way to learn.
Most people don’t realize the power of purposeful hallucination.
Start Hallucinating Today!
But you can hallucinate anybody you want.
To tell you anything you need.
