Candy Origin Story
One of my favorite commercials when I was a kid was the origin story of Reese’s Peanut Butter cups.
One lady was walking down the street eating a chocolate bar.
Another dude, in a business suit, was walking down the street eating some peanut butter.
From a jar.
With a spoon.
They each came around a corner and crashed into each other.
Hey!
You got chocolate in my peanut butter!
Hey!
You got peanut butter on my chocolate!
And BOOM, a new candy was born.
This happens quite a lot in history.
Famous Combinations
For example, once upon a time (not really that long ago) a guy came up an interesting combination.
A camera on a stick.
This is, essentially, the GoPro origin story.
Combining two things that already existed.
Sometimes these things evolve over time.
These combinations.
New technology applied to old ideas.
For example, the ancient Greeks understood how to boil water, and then direct the steam to spins stuff around.
This is how they make modern electricity.
Need More Power
Only if they ONLY burned wood, to boil the water, to spin stuff around, it wouldn’t create much juice.
But once they found coal, this idea of burning stuff to create expanding gasses to move stuff really took off.
This is essentially what drove the Industrial Revolution.
Coal releases way more energy than wood when you burn it.
All that energy drove all kinds of things, inventions and created way more people.
Conversational Persuasion
There are two very powerful ideas from psychology that can also be combined.
One is the idea of subconscious influence, discovered by Cialdini.
Authority, social proof, comparison and contrast, etc.
Extremely powerful laws of influence that clever marketers have used to sell absolute crap tons of product.
Then there’s Milton Erickson.
The Dr. who invented covert hypnosis.
So he could tell stories and sneak ideas into people’s brains.
Ideas they’d later find, and think they were their own.
This guy erased lifelong fears in an hour or two.
Eliminated horrific additions.
Slide In Their Brain
What happens when you combine these two?
The powerful and irresistible laws of influence from Cialdini?
And the secret idea delivery system of Erickson?
Some very powerful, conversationally delivered ideas.
To take any idea you want them to believe, and attach it to powerful Cialdini laws of influence, and delivery it covertly into their brain.
What ideas would YOU like to slide into people’s brains?
Whose brains would you like to slide them into?
What will they do as a result?
