What Are Binaural Beats?
The idea of binaural beats is a little complex. In this post, we’ll explain what they are, how they theoretically work, and some very interesting and helpful applications. Some of these applications are enhanced focus and concentration for studying, being able to fall asleep much quicker, and entering into a very imaginative brainwave state. There are plenty of other applications, but those three seem to be the most popular. First, what are binaural beats?
Binaural literally means “two sounds”. Bi is two. (like bi-cycle) and “aural” is sound. (reference here) The beats part is kind of misleading. The theory is that if you have one sound signal in one ear, and another frequency in the other ear the brain will perceive the difference. The main reason we are focused on the difference is we ultimately want to use sounds to stimulate certain brainwave frequencies. Why would we want to do this?
I Can’t Sleep!
One way is it will help us fall asleep. When we get drowsy and eventually nod off, a way scientists can measure this is from a brainwave perspective. When we are awake and alert, we are in the beta brainwave state. When we are kind of the day dreamy state, we are in the alpha state. When we are slipping into la-la land, we are in theta. And delta is the sleep state. The general frequencies are listed below:
Beta: 14 Hz and up
Alpha: 7 to 14 Hz
Theta: 4 to 7 Hz
Delta: 0 to 4 Hz
The idea is if we can slow our brainwaves down to 7 Hz or below, we can get some needed shut eye. The problem is that our ears can’t hear anything below 20 Hz. This means with straight sounds, we’re stuck in 20Hz and above.
Enter The Binaural
Binaural means two sounds, as mentioned before. The way it works is we have one sound in one ear, say 100hz. Then if we play another tone, say 110Hz in our other ear, our brain will perceive the difference. Listen to the examples below.
Pure 100 Hz
Pure 110 Hz
Binaural (100 in one ear, 110 in the other).
Binaural (100 in one ear, 110 in the other).
If you relax and let your find focus wholly on the sounds, it seems as though you can hear the 10hz difference. 10 Hz means ten cycles per second. That means every second you can hear ten faint “thumps.” This is where the “beats” in the binaural beat come from. It is this difference that is resonating with your brain waves.
What Does This Mean?
If it is true that we can now use simple sounds to modify our own brainwaves, this means we can modify our brainwaves at will. This means you can be up and alert when you need to be up and alert. You can be relaxed and inwardly focused when you need to be relaxed and focuses. If you want to put yourself in a very creative mindset, you can. Would this be helpful?
Brainwaves And Their Associated Mental States
Beta Brainwave
This is the highest brainwave state. This is when you are awake, conscious and paying attention to the things happening around you. If you need to perform well, and your performance is based on how well you effectively interact with your environment, this is the state you want. Lucky for most humans, this is the natural awakened state. You don’t really need much help (other than a strong cup of coffee) to perform in this state.
However, if you are too high up in beta, you will start to feel anxious and nervous. A good use of binaural beats is to keep you low in the beta state, so you can have all the focus and concentration but none of the worry.
Alpha Brainwave
This a relaxed, yet still awakened state. This is a common state sought by meditators to clear their minds of any unwanted thoughts. This is also the brainwave you slip into and your mind kind of drifts all on its own. (This isn’t usually a good idea for school or when your partner is talking about something important!)
It’s also one where you can be incredibly creative. Most of our ideas and inspirations come to us when we are in a more relaxed, alpha state. Luckily, with binaural beats we can create this brainwave state at will. This would be very useful to creative types like writers, artists and musicians.
Theta Brainwave
This is on the border between being awake and being asleep. This is that strange state of mind we sometimes find ourselves in as we are falling asleep. When we slip from thinking thoughts to watching thoughts and wondering what the heck just happened. This is also the most powerful state of mind for reprogramming. This is the brainwave where nearly all of Mind Persuasion subliminal programming takes place.
The idea is very simple. You create a collection of short simple statements that represent a belief you’d like to think of as absolutely true. Then you create the theta brainwave state in mind (by binaural beats) and relax while your unconscious mind is blasted with those enhanced beliefs. The critical factor which some regard as the “gatekeeper” of our brain is knocked out cold, and those messages go straight in.
Delta Brainwave
These are when your brain is pretty much shut down, and you are in a very deep state of sleep. Most of us don’t spend very much time in delta, but it is necessary. Even if you are in bed for ten hours, and you are knocked out for those ten hours, you won’t feel well-rested if you haven’t spent any of those ten hours in delta.
All Possible With Binaural Beats
With some simple software, you can custom build your own binaurals for your own purpose. There are also some very effective (and very affordable) pieces of software that make it very easy for you to custom create your own binaural beats for your own purposes.
Example Binaural Sounds
Below we’ll list some example binaural beats you can try out for yourself. Feel free to download these and listen to them whenever you need to. All of the following binaural beats were created with a piece of software called “Neuroprogrammer,” and is available from Transparent Corp. You can read more about it here: Transparent Corp
Binaural Beats For Sleep
This is a pure sound that will help you drift easily to sleep. It starts in alpha and ramps down to delta, helping your drift into la-la land. Headphones required (so you can get the full binaural effect):
This is the same pure sound but with some rain sounds laid on top. Headphones required:
Binaural Beats For Focus and Concentration
These are pure sounds that keep you in low beta, so you can have all the focus and concentration but without any of the stress or anxiety:
These are the same pure sounds, but with some other sounds laid on top.
Binaural Beats For Creativity
This is for brainstorming, when you want a free flowing of creative ideas.

Binaural Beats For Deep Meditation And Self Programming
These are pure theta sounds to use for meditation. These will clear your mind of all thoughts. They will also make you very drowsy, so listen while sitting up and with your eyes closed.

Isochronic Tones
There is another technique that works even better than binaural beats. The strategy is the same, in that external sounds are used to generate internal brainwave states. But instead of tricking the brain by playing a different tone in each ear, there are actual tones played within the beat. Here is an example:
You can hear the tones, but studies have shown that they don’t need to be very loud at all to have an effect. And they don’t need to be separate tones. Instead of beats laid on top of the tones, they can be as short burst of “silence” within any played sound. And the silence doesn’t have to be complete.
For example, if the desired brainwave state is a theta state of 4 Hz, then the intended tones need to be played four times per second. Each tone can be a brief dip in the volume of the tone. Here is some white noise with some embedded isochronic tones:
The best part about isochronic tones is that while headphones are most effective, they aren’t absolutely necessary. With binaural beats, without headphones there is no effect.
Combination Effects
Of course, to ensure the most results, combining both binaural beats as well as isochronic tones would be effective. All Mind Persuasion products come with a combination of both.
The targeted brainwave is supported by both isochronic tones as well as binaural beats. This will give the listener the absolute quickest “reprogramming” with the accompany affirmations.
