An Educated Man
One of my favorite movies is Tombstone.
And one of my favorite scenes is the scene in the casino.
When Johnny Ringo was trying to show off by twirling his gun around.
And then Doc Holiday countered by twirling his drinking cup around.
But then they started speaking Latin to each other.
And when Johnny Ringo first spoke Latin, Doc Holiday remarked:
“Oh, look, he is an educated man.”
Nobody can do something like speak Latin spontaneously.
Because nobody speaks Latin.
Simply by speaking Latin indicates a lot.
That you deliberately went through a lot of time to study Latin.
And studying any language takes time and dedication.
It also sends a much deeper message.
That you are patient.
Long Game Thinker
That you understand the importance of delayed gratification.
That you can set your sight on a goal, and achieve it.
Any time you demonstrate a certain type of acquired knowledge, it sets you apart from everybody else.
Nearly everybody goes through life doing the bare minimum.
This is our natural programming.
So the people that “go the extra mile” set themselves apart.
If you can sit down and play the piano at a party, it indicates you’ve spent a lot of time learning to play.
Something not a lot of people do.
When you speak a different language for fun, it indicates you’ve spent a lot of time learning how to do that.
It sends a message that personal development is important.
And generally speaking, the more you develop yourself, the more valuable you are.
To friends, lovers, employers and whoever is lucky enough to be around you.
Brain Improvement
That you don’t just show up to life and keep your fingers crossed, hoping for the best.
That you are somebody who is dedicated to making yourself better.
This kind of thing, a demonstration of uncommon skills and uncommon knowledge indicates HOW you spend your free time.
You don’t while it away on passive entertainment.
You treat your mind like an athlete treats their body.
Many people have nice bodies today.
Not a lot of people have nice minds.
Not a lot of people can do things like spontaneously speak Latin, or talk intelligently about Greek philosophy or chemical engineering.
But if you do, people will remember you.
Your brain is a miracle of the universe.
The most complex thing we humans know about.
Valuable Life
Set up to contain essentially unlimited knowledge and information.
Demonstrate that you respect your brain, and others will as well.
Demonstrate that you respect your path in life, and others will as well.
Demonstrate that YOU believe your life is THE most important thing, and others will as well.
