One of the presuppositions of NLP is that you’ve got everything you need to do anything you want. Sounds wonderful, until you need to figure out exactly what to do.
It’s like having a huge kitchen, and knowing that you’ve got everything you need to make a six course meal. You just got to find the right cookbooks, figure out what all the ingredients are, and how to actually cook them.
No simple task, to say the least. However, you DO have everything. Which means you don’t have any excuses. You can’t say, “Well, I’d really like to cook that french pastry, but I’m fresh out of thyme.”
Here’s a real world trick you can do right now to dig deep into your brain and find the solutions to your most pressing problem. No surgical equipment required.
Take one of your problems, issues, or questions facing you. Put it in a “How can I….” question form.
How can I make more money?
How can I get that girl to go out with me?
How can I find my life’s purpose?
How can I get better sleep at night?
Once you’ve got it, then you’ll need to sit down, in a quiet place, with either a pen and paper, or a word processor.
Write that question at the top of your paper.
Then underneath it, write “sentence stems,” like this:
I can…
I can…
I can…
Write at least twenty of them, but the more the better.
Then just finish them with whatever comes to mind. You’ll find that the first five or ten answers are answers that you’ve been programmed with. These are the kinds of answers people give when answering surveys and questionnaires. The kinds of answers we think we “should” give. Meaning they are pretty useless.
Once you get past these, you’ll start getting to the good stuff. But you’re not done yet. You’ll get to a point where your brain starts to feel tired. Kind of like you’ve gone jogging for the first time in years, and after a couple hundred yards your lungs are on fire and you feel like you’re going to drop dead.
Push through the desire to stop. On the other side of this mental fatigue is pure gold.
You’ll find some of the most insightful ideas and breathtakingly creative means to easily solve your problems at the bottom of your sheet.
When you push past your socially programmed conscious mind, and get to the genius of your unconscious, there’s NOTHING you can’t accomplish.
Try it out.
