Once I had this philosophy professor. I didn’t know what it was, but after class I always felt really “fired up.”
The way the guy talked, they topics he spoke about, the examples he used were incredibly compelling.
Nothing complicated, as this was a basic, intro philosophy 101 type class.
And the guy certainly wasn’t a rock star or anything. He was an older guy, who wasn’t the sharpest dresser in town.
But he really was into what he was teaching about.
I had plenty other teachers who obviously couldn’t care less. Some would just drone on, copying their notes onto the board. They wouldn’t even look up. They’d hold their notes and describe them, as they copied them word for word onto the board.
I couldn’t stay awake in those classes no matter HOW much coffee I drank.
The philosophy teacher, on the other hand, NEVER used notes. He would walk the room, holding eye contact the entire time, forcing the students to engage him in conversation, rarely writing anything on the board.
When most of us interact with others, we’re like the teachers who copy from their notes, directly onto the board, without ever making eye contact.
We’ve got a list of things in our minds we need to spit out. Usually we spit out the same “stuff” over and over again.
But when we walk the Earth like my philosophy prof walked the class, keeping eye contact, being filled with congruence and appreciation, it will have an INCREDLBE effect on those you speak with.
Just like I can remember that particular prof in great detail, DECADES LATER, those people you interact with in this manner will remember YOU.
How do you speak with them?
In a way that fires up their emotions, minds and hearts.
Forget about the chit chat most of us spend our time talking about. Talk about what fires you up. Talk about what fires THEM up.
And stand back and watch the magic happen.
This particular conversation style and strategy is only one of a six part course on creating and realizing your goals.
Because getting your goals generally requires the cooperation of others, this particular strategy will give you the edge you need.
