Optical illusions are pretty cool, and they are very similar, in structure, to jokes.
With optical illusions, you trick your brain into seeing two different things at the same time.
Like that famous one that’s either a young lady looking one way, or an old lady looking the other way. You brain flips back and forth, which gives you a small, “otherworldly” experience.
With jokes, at least many jokes, you force your brain to consider two different meanings of a phonetic sound at the same time. For a brief moment, your mind holds both meanings at the same time, which gives you that short but really cool “goofy” feeling.
(E.g. Why is six afraid of seven? Seven ate nine!)
Unfortunately, the ease with which our brains can be manipulated doesn’t stop with optical illusions and jokes.
Our whole lives are filled with us seeing things that aren’t there, and not seeing things that are.
Most of our fears, the things that keep us from getting what we want, are only in our heads.
And all of the opportunities that exist that can easily help us get what we want are around us all the time, we just are too inside our heads, wrapped up in our own “stories” to see them.
If we aren’t careful, our brains, and lives, can be easily manipulated, and taken advantage of without even knowing it.
What’s the solution?
The best defense, as they say, is a good offense.
So long as you’ve got some clearly defined goals, and some specific actions you are taking to get there, no matter how much life tries to derail you, you’ll stay on track.
Since most people don’t HAVE solid goals they’re going after, they bounce through life like a helpless ping pong ball in a wind tunnel.
But with solid goals, you’ll be as solid as a rock, and focused like a laser. External manipulation will bounce off you like bullets off Superman.
