I went to a free seminar a couple weeks ago.
It was at a local community center.
The seminar was on public speaking, but it didn’t give a lot of information.
Some public speaking seminars are on pure techniques, which kind of ignore the public speaking fear that people have.
While others are more focused on overcoming the fear, but the ones on overcoming the fear are based on slowly easing into public speaking.
Good public speaking courses at a community college are structured like this.
Ease Into It
They start off with slow and easy exercises so you can ease yourself into giving a full speech.
But since this was only for a day, and it was free, I kind of suspected it would be a sell the sizzle kind of thing that would end up being a pitch for a more expensive seminar.
The first half was on the basics, eye contact, pausing, using gestures, picking a speaking topic.
And it was mixed in with sell the sizzle kind of stuff.
Ideas that if you learn to speak publicly you’ll have more social confidence.
Benefits of Public Speaking
Or if you learn to speak in public you’ll make more money.
Or if you learn to speak in public you’ll be more successful.
Or if you learn to speak in public you’ll have more sex.
Just before lunch the guy said that after lunch we’d go through some exercises.
Which meant that at lunch everybody kind of had that nervous energy.
Bring Your A-Game
When everybody knows something is coming and everybody is trying to put on their A-game confidence so they can get ready for it.
It reminded me of the first day of class of public speaking classes.
Nobody likes to speak in public, but everybody is there so that they can speak in public.
Compared to the first day of a class on something like calculus or Egyptian history.
Ready To Rumble
On the first day of speech class everybody is much more outgoing, kind of getting ready.
This lady at lunch talked about this one public speaking seminar she went to a long, long time ago.
It was based on hypnotizing the audience, so you could pretty much program the audience to do whatever you wanted to.
She said that once you hypnotized the audience, you could pretty much say anything, and it would go straight into their brains.
Not So Hypnotic
You could look directly at them and say buy all my products.
Or you could look directly at them and say have more sex.
Or you could look directly at them and tell them to jump up and down like a kangaroo.
Of course, nobody believed her.
Especially when she said that you can hypnotize somebody by using this really weird phrase that doesn’t make any sense.
She didn’t tell us what this phrase was, because she said if she used it, it would put us all in a trance.
Magic Words Of Trance
She did say that you don’t even need to use eye contact when you say this phrase, you can read it from your notes.
That you can get up, be totally nervous, read this phrase from your notes and the audience will go into a deep trance.
Then you can program their mind to do whatever you want and they won’t remember any of this.
They will forget everything that came before this.
Since nobody believed her, she said she was going to demonstrate it on us.
That she would touch her nose, and then her ear, and then she’d read this phrase that would allegedly hypnotize us.
After lunch we went back and like the guy said, we did some work in groups, and then he asked some of us to get up and talk in front of the class.
She got up and slowly touched her nose, and then her ear.
As soon as she did that, I checked my watch. It was 2:20 in the afternoon.
But then it was 3:10, fifty minutes later.
I don’t remember anything between 2:20 and 3:10.
Then just like I expected, the guy pitched his three day public speaking seminar.
He said if you come to this seminar, you’ll learn how to gain confidence, make a lot more money and have more sex with attractive people.
I didn’t sign up because I was busy that weekend.
Was I Jumping?
But for some reason my legs were really sore the rest of the afternoon.
I’m not sure why.
Mind Persuasion has plenty of books and courses to teach you how to speak hypnotically and persuasively.
