I was talking to a client of mine the other day. They had a particular business goal in mind, and wondered if it was “possible.”
My immediate response was “Well, pretty much anything is possible so long as it’s not against the laws of physics.”
How do you know if it is? Just take your goal, whether it be business, personal, emotional, spiritual, and decide when you’d like to accomplish it.
Then simply work backwards, from then to now, and figure out what it’s going to take, on a weekly basis to get there.
The question then kind of morphs from “is it possible” to “am I willing to do what it takes to make it happen.”
And truthfully (and sadly) most of us aren’t. Sure, we’ve all got big “dreams” of things we’d like to have “happen to us” somewhere off in the distant (or not too distant) future, but as I’m sure you’re well aware, for the vast majority of us, they remain just that.
Dreams.
The secret of success is simple. Take your dreams, and turn them into plans. I mean, I’m kind of hungry right now, and I’d love to have a big plate of cheese nachos “poof” themselves into existence.
But unless I’m willing to go to the store, buy the ingredients, and come home and cook them, it ain’t gonna happen.
One of the biggest things that keep us stuck in “dream” mode is our beliefs.
If we truly believe we can’t achieve something, we won’t. Even if we see others doing the same thing.
We’ve got these self deluded ideas, like “Yea, HE can do it, but he’s lucky, or HE has better parents. I’m a special case. I CAN’T do THAT!”
Well, guess what?
Yes, you can. You really can.
However, if you forge on ahead with only will power, you’re going to face a lot of internal resistance. Internal resistance that’s so tricky you’ll think it’s coming from “outside.”
But get rid of that internal resistance, those internal objections keeping you from getting what you are truly capable of, and it’s smooth sailing, my friend.
