Leverage The Human Condition

What is human nature?
 
From inside our brains, very complex and hard to answer.
 
But from an external, objective standpoint, pretty easy.
 
Humans are like all other animals.
 
Driven to stay alive and propagate.
 
We need food, we want sex, and we want a positive social experience.
 
And we will always want more.
 
Sure, we can be satisfied, temporarily.
 
But we will always want more.
 
We, and all other living creatures, are goal getting organisms.
 
We eat, we sleep, we relieve ourselves, and keep going.
 
We like positive relationships with positive people.
 
Because it is impossible for any human to exist on their own, we are hard wired to find and enjoy mutually enjoyable relationships with others.
 

Objective Easy

Outside looking in, this is pretty simple.
 
Straightforward.
 
But inside our brains, nothing is more difficult.
 
Economics is called the dismal science for a reason.
 
We can’t escape the fact that everything costs something.
 
Not just direct costs, but opportunity costs.
 
We want something and we have to do something to get it.
 
Sometimes something risky and uncertain.
 
The bigger the payoff, the bigger the costs.
 
This is the human condition.
 
Always looking out into the world and wanting things.
 
Always not completely sure how, specifically, we should best get those things.
 
Always wondering if those things we want should take up our time, effort, and risk.
 
Always wishing there were an easier way.
 
But we can’t NOT think about those things we want.
 

Vaguely Dreaming

Sometimes we daydream vaguely.
 
Other times we fixate specifically.
 
But we love to daydream.
 
To fantasize about the things we want, but might never get.
 
Or maybe get super lucky and stumble into them.
 
Dale Carnegie once said everybody is listening to their favorite radio station:
 
WII-FM
 
“What’s in it for me.”
 
Which means whenever we (most of us) interact with others, we LEAD with OUR desires.
 
Our dreams.
 
Our fantasies.
 
Our expectations.
 
Which makes it kind of hard to get those things.
 

Reverse Polarity

Since everybody is always thinking about their own dreams.
 
But this creates a magnificent opportunity.
 
To become incredibly attractive and charismatic.
 
To become the one they seek.
 
The one they remember fondly.
 
How so?
 
By temporarily turning OFF your own desires.
 
Your own ego and opinions.
 
And instead, focus on theirs instead.
 
To ask about their dreams and build them.
 
So they associate YOU with their dreams.
 
They associate YOU with their desires.
 
Their fantasies and ambitions.
 
Which means they’ll do ANYTHING to stay with you.
