Don’t Think About It
There’s a famous story about a wizard and a king.
The king is growing impatient with the wizard.
The kingdom is in shambles and the king is worried about a peasant uprising.
So he calls in the wizard and says:
Listen, dude, you’d better produce something or I’m going to chop off your head.
No problem, replied the wizard.
Here is a magic spell to restore prosperity to the kingdom.
So the wizard, on the spot, comes up with a bunch of cool sounding mumbo jumbo he calls a magic spell.
He helps the king until he can recite it from memory.
Is that it? Asks the skeptical king.
No, that’s not it, says the wizard.
The only way the spell will work is if you say it WITHOUT thinking about a pink elephant.
Pink Elephants ruin all magic.
The king says OK and starts repeating the spell.
Only he can’t get his mind off that pink elephant.
This is based on the idea that you can’t NOT think about something once you’re told to NOT think about that thing.
But you can think about other things instead.
And think about those other things until they crowd out all the things you’re not supposed to think about.
The same goes with behaviors.
If you think about a pink elephant it will ruin the magic.
If think about things you DON’T WANT to happen, it will create unattractive behavior.
So instead, think about what you DO want.
Eyes on the prize, as the say.
Focus On Positive
Like when you look across the room at a pretty lady, eject all those fears of getting rejected.
Instead, focus ONLY on images of her laughing and smiling during a conversation with you.
This will drive your behavior to flash a GENUINE smile in her direction.
Which will generally get a reciprocal genuine smile in return.
Despite all the swirling confusion in our brains, the structure is pretty simple.
Focus your mind on what you want.
Your mind will drive your behaviors.
Those behaviors will get what you want.
If you focus your mind on what you fear, that will drive your behaviors.
Which will create what it is your fear.
Practice Makes Better
Sure, this may take a bit of practice, but simply shifting your thoughts will shift your behaviors.
This is very simple and very ancient brain programming.
Slowly build up your “strength” of positive focus (sounds like self help mumbo jumbo, I know…)
And life will become easier and more enjoyable.
Focus on smiles and you’ll get smiles.
Focus on long happy conversations, and you’ll get long happy conversations.
Focus on fantastic sexual experiences, and you’ll get fantastic sexual experiences.
