There’s an old myth from Cuba that I like. It’s related to the power of language.
As it goes, long ago, there was the Master of the Universe. He realized the end of his rule was coming, and he needed to choose a replacement.
Since being the Master of the Universe requires a bit of insight into human behavior, he wanted to make sure his replacement knew what was what.
So he asked him to cook the best meal ever. The potential replacement came back a couple days later with a tongue.
The Master tasted it, and agreed it was delicious. But why a tongue?
“A tongue can say wonderful things. It can bring hope, shed insight and generate love.”
“Very well,” said the Master.
“Now cook me the worst thing ever.”
The potential replacement came back a couple days later, again, with a tongue.
Again, the Master tasted it, spat it out on the floor.
“Holy crap dude! This is horrible!”
“But, why a tongue?” he asked.
“A tongue can say horrible things. It can bring misery, despair, and hate.”
“Very well,” said the Master.
“You’ve got the job.”
Few us realize the incredible power of language. Not to just communicate and get our needs met, but to move emotions, fulfill dreams and create wonderful relationships.
When most of us speak, we have a couple of half baked ideas, and spit out a jumble of words that only make partial sense.
But with just a little bit of thought, and some practice, instead of expressing half baked ideas with jumbled up and poorly chosen words, you can make beautiful music with your language.
Laser like targeted ideas that will make your listeners forget about everything else except for you and your ideas.
