Now Is Always
The idea of “now” is pretty compelling, and interesting.
From a purely philosophical view, it’s always now.
You can never live in the past.
You can lever live in the future.
You can imagine the past, while in the now.
You can imagine the future, while in the now.
But the future is impossible to predict.
And the past is impossible to remember.
Huh?
Straight A’s?
In school, the teacher says exactly what is going to be on the test.
The exact pages in the book we need to read to get ready for the test.
We know the EXACT time and place the test is going to be.
And still, we get a B.
This is when there is zero doubt what we are supposed to remember.
Other times, it’s even worse.
Like several studies have shown.
Things happen UNEXPECTEDLY and we can’t remember squat.
Our eye witness testimony is so shaky, if that’s all we got, the cops won’t even bother.
Because they KNOW how easy it would be to destroy our memory-credibility during the trial.
Ask us about a bunch of stuff that happened today.
Ask us about a bunch of stuff the judge the day before.
Look at the jury and say:
Memory Squishy
See! This person only got B’s and C’s in school!
This person can’t remember what the judge said three hours ago!
This person can’t even remember what color TIE the judge is wearing!
How can we trust his memory of something that happened three months ago!
My client is INNOCENT!
So, back to that “now” idea.
We can remember a more or less false past.
We can imagine what it MIGHT be like in the future.
All in the now.
Now, this doesn’t mean you should FORGET about things like paying your rent.
Maximize The Now
We self-aware talking monkey people have figured out ways to remember important things.
Like get to work on time.
Pay the rent on time.
Do things that have a HIGH PROBABILITY of making our future good, rather than bad.
But even still it’s ALWAYS now.
And sometimes, you really CAN forget about the past (which you don’t really remember anyway, so you’ve already kind of forgotten it).
And sometimes you can really stop worrying about the future, since it will NEVER be what you think anyway.
If you COULD predict the future, you’d NEVER be caught in the rain.
AND you’d be a bitcoin BILLIONAIRE!
But you’re not.
So, what’s the answer?
When you want to, only enjoy the now.
Smiles All Around
Have fun.
Make people smile and laugh and enjoy themselves.
Create HAPPY memories, so when you DO mis-remember things, those falsely remembered memories will be filled with happy smiling people.
And that can be unforgettable!
