Believable Storytelling
A long time ago, I took an acting class.
And one of the exercises was to bring in two items.
And each item had to have a story.
But only one story was true.
The game was to try and make BOTH stories sound so believable, that nobody could tell which was true and which wasn’t.
To be a highly skilled, in demand actor, you’ve got to BELIEVE what you are saying.
The difference between a heart wrenching drama and a silly melodrama is both acting and writing.
The writers have to make a believable story about how two people can fall in love, and suffer emotional pain.
Sell The Story
But the actors have to sell it.
Often with ONLY a slight shift in facial expressions.
Actors that suck end up on soap operas.
Actors that are REALLY good make it into the big leagues.
The actors that are really good get into a mind space where the BELIEVE what they are portraying.
This is also how con artists can easily con people.
They first con themselves.
So when they are telling their con-story to their marks, EVERYBODY, including the con artists believe it.
Groucho Marx Pattern
Groucho Marx said the following:
Sincerity is the most important thing there is.
If you can fake that, you’ve got it made!
This is funny because it’s about faking-sincerity.
But it’s also very, very true.
One of the BEST skills of any politician is to tell a believable story to the voters.
To get them to BELIEVE that you really care about them.
This is generally pretty easy, since there are tons of other things going on.
Crowds of people, which means social proof.
Their all registered with a political party, which means commitment and consistency.
The politician is verified if some way by the party, which means authority.
Easiest Way To Lie
Under these conditions it is pretty easy to temporarily imagine a FRAME of truth.
But how do you do this so you can demonstrate this frame of truth individually?
Not to con people, but to genuinely help them?
Consider two kinds of advice.
One is generally unappreciated.
The kind of unasked for advice that most people hate.
This kind of advice is a kind of flex.
A statement or demonstration that the advice GIVER knows more about the advice topic than he advice RECEIVER.
It’s like they unasked for advice giver is saying:
Hey, you don’t me, but I am BETTER than you with regards to what you’re trying to do!
On the other hand, there is much more profound advice.
Confident Love Advice
Coming from a truly confident frame.
A frame FREE from any ego energy.
Advice that is genuinely helpful.
The kind that people REMEMBER.
Kind of like in super hero movies.
Somebody’s in trouble.
The hero swoops in and takes care of things.
But they don’t hang out and bask in glory.
They split.
Build the right frame and BE the hero.
