I’ve always been interested in market bubbles. These are times throughout history when people have pretty much lost their minds, and invested in some pretty crazy stuff.
Investing isn’t quite the right term. More like gambling. Or desperate gambling.
One of my favorite instances is the famous “Dutch Tulip Mania.” It happened back in the 1600’s, and people got rich, as well as lost their life’s savings investing in tulips.
Flowers.
Not just the flowers, but the bulbs. Somebody somehow got some diseased tulips, but the disease didn’t kill the flowers, it just made them grow into some crazy psychedelic colors.
Pretty soon they became popular. Anybody that was anybody had a couple. The latest rage.
Then people started buying tulip futures. Meaning if somebody had a couple of tulip seeds, and they were expected to grow into bulbs (which could be easily transplanted), that person would sell a piece of paper, giving the holder of this “tulip paper” the right to buy the bulb when it grew.
And people started trading this “tulip paper” like it was gold. Pretty soon people made hundreds of thousands of dollars (in today’s money) buying and selling this “tulip paper.”
Pretty soon, the bottom fell out, everybody went broke, and this whole “flower craze” ended up crashing the entire economy.
Now, plenty of historians look back on this and say “How can people be so crazy?”
They wonder why humans can behave so irrationally.
The truth is we are all controlled by these subconscious mind triggers, often times without us knowing what’s going on.
Most people don’t like to admit this, because most people like to think of themselves as the “logical, rational” types who never make an emotional decision.
But since you’re reading this, you know that’s bunk.
You know there’s much more to human behavior that what’s on the surface.
After all, our conscious minds are but a small part of our whole minds. Most people are afraid to even admit the existence of the subconscious, but you know it’s there.
And most of the time, it’s pulling the strings.
If you’ve ever felt fear or anxiety when you KNEW there was no logical reason to, you know precisely what I’m talking about.
Which is why when you understand what these triggers are, how we got them, and how you can use them, you’ll feel like you know the inside secret of human behavior.
Because you will.
Giving you the power to not only resist any kind of manipulation, but you’ll know exactly what triggers to push if you want to help people make the right decision.
