Rule The World
What is love?
Answer this and you might get a Nobel prize.
This is a difficult question these days.
Most people only experience the first step of love.
That attraction that is there to pull people together.
That’s like having the ingredients of a cake.
But just having the ingredients is a start.
You need to put in some effort to bake a cake.
I suppose in this metaphor, the cake is a happy, mutually satisfying and mutually beneficial relationship.
Most people have given up looking for that.
Get Out First
Either bailing out completely or only going for the short term fun.
Either the smash and dash type or the serial monogamist type.
Either way it’s more or less the same.
Find somebody interesting enough, share some good times together as long as it lasts, and get out before anything bad happens.
This is kind of a race to the bottom type thing.
When I was in college I played a lot of racquetball.
When you only have three people, you play cutthroat.
Why cutthroat?
You’ve got three people.
A, B and C.
Everybody Vs. Everybody
But only one person can win.
One person who gets 21 points first.
So it’s A and B vs C.
Or A and C vs. B.
Or B vs. A and C.
One minute you’re partners.
The next minute you’re enemies.
Kind of like modern dating.
You’re nice and friend in the beginning.
But once it starts to get boring, both people are low key looking for the exit.
Nobody wants to get ghosted.
Nobody wants to GET dumped.
So we try to dump each other first.
This is modern love.
Short term pleasure followed by a lot of finger pointing, anger and a deeper and deeper hatred for the opposite sex.
A lot of stuff going in here.
But that deep feeling is the same.
Deep In Your DNA
The ancient feeling of attraction.
Before the modern dumpster fire, there were a couple more steps to create a lasting relationship.
Beyond that initial attraction.
Mutual goals, the support of each other’s social crew, including parents, and then kids.
Back then, relationships weren’t always happy-happy fun time, but they were a necessary part of society.
You and your partner weren’t always banging the crap out of each other, but it was always “help each other bury the bodies” to keep the relationship intact.
Few people started to look for the exit at the first sign of trouble.
Everybody did this because everybody did this.
But deep beneath modern train wrecks, this is preferable.
This is programmed into our DNA.
If were all about the in-and-out back in the day, we NEVER would have evolved.
This is why romance novels and silly Disney type romance movies will NEVER be not popular.
