I was watching a really interesting lecture the other day.
One in a long series about all the reasons different people exhibit different behaviors.
A lot of our neurological makeup is based on feedback loops.
Like some neurons fire and light up another neuron.
But some neurons fire, light up another neuron, but then send that same signal back to itself.
It was described as a kind of “signal strengthening” method.
Another way this happens is a neuron will fire toward another neuron, but then the feedback will go into the neurons on either side.
This was described as a “signal isolation” technique.
Then the guy was talking about hormones.
How the brain creates hormones.
Or send signals that create hormones.
Brain Driven Hormones
But then some hormones get into the brain and alter how the brain works.
Which makes the brain send different hormones.
One confusing idea about interpersonal social behavior is the idea if “frame.”
You have an idea, and you try to get your idea accepted.
The strength of your belief in this idea is the strength of your frame.
But the person you are talking to ALSO has an idea, a belief in that idea, or the frame around that idea.
If both of you have relatively equal frames, plus or minus a little bit, each of your ideas will slightly change the other ideas.
Which will change the frame slightly.
Their ideas blend in with your ideas, which change your frame, which changes your ideas, which change their ideas, which change their frame.
This mutually reinforcing, overlapping feedback system can be found EVERYWHERE.
Cycles Of Eternity
The formation of societies, the formation of planets, the creation of hurricanes and tornadoes.
Some “thing” begins and it starts to attract other “things.”
The more of those things they attract, the bigger the original thing gets, which makes it easier to attract more things.
Most conversations are like this.
Kind of like a mini tornado of ideas, swirling around and around, directionless.
It might be enjoyable for a bit, but then it kind of fizzles.
This, of course, happens between inorganic entities.
Planets, hurricanes, tornadoes, solar systems, etc.
And between people who never really think about frame or content or beliefs or strengths of beliefs.
Foot In Their Brain
But all you need is a teeny, tiny edge.
Which comes from a very basic understanding of this on an interpersonal level.
So with just a few inter-conversational adjustments, you can CONTROL this normally random swirling of ideas.
So they swirl around YOU.
So YOU can become the eye of the hurricane.
Or the center of the solar system.
Or the center of the entire universe.
