Didn’t See That Coming
I saw a really goofy movie the other day.
A low budget, low tech anthology of horror-like stories.
But kind of like Twilight Zone, with twist endings.
One of them was about a boxer, about to get kicked out of his gym.
Because he kept losing.
But then he made a deal with a devil type person.
And got a magical pair of boxing gloves.
The trick was that while he would always win, if he wore the gloves, the gloves would take over him during the fight.
And each time he wore them, he beat the other guy to death.
Wether it was a fight or with a sparring partner.
He couldn’t stop himself.
The ref also didn’t stop the fight.
And he didn’t like having to win by killing other dudes.
So he burned the gloves, wanting out of the Faustian bargain.
Escape?
He thought he had a happy ending.
So he goes back to the gym, ready to spar, thinking he’d learned his lesson.
And in the ring was a new guy.
The new guy that was his sparring partner.
And the new guy was wearing the magic gloves of death.
Which meant the hero of the story was about to get beat to death.
The End.
This is a very, very ancient instinct.
One that was very helpful WAY back in the day.
The fight or flight response.
Instincts Rule The Brain
And when “it” chooses fight, it’s a fight to the death.
This idea pops up in plenty of myths and legends and TV shows and history.
If you’re gonna mess with somebody, you better go all the way.
So they don’t spend their time planning revenge while recovering.
But if you ever DO go all the way, that will significantly change how you view the world.
These are the ancient leaders.
It seems kind of paradoxical that being a leader requires you also be a vicious killer.
But way back in the day, when our instincts were calibrated, it was much better to be led by a proven killer than a half-hearted, half-measure kind of guy.
Even in modern people who live like ancient tribes, researchers find a very high correlation between literal kill rate and the number of kids they have.
But how do we express this in modern society?
Killer Attitude Flexible
It’s not really a good idea to murder all the other dudes in line for the top job at work.
But you CAN very much cultivate the “killer attitude.”
You can speak with confidence that will demonstrate that.
You can speak about deep and complex ideas that indicate there is MUCH MORE going on in your brain than meets the eye.
And if you can “murder” people with your words, while maintaining a smile and a normal pulse, you’ll BE a modern killer.
One people will follow and support.
