Correlation and Causation
One of the biggest causes of misunderstanding in the world of science is a mistaking correlation for causation.
Especially if you have one main variable, that is driving all the other variables,.
Then any two of the driven variables can be correlated, and thereby misunderstood to having a causative relationship.
Origin of Origin Stories
One common misunderstanding is when we look way back in the early days of mythology and religion, and try to interpret their origin stories.
We naturally see them as being allegorical, or metaphorical, or mythological, as we live in a world of science.
The mistake comes when we assume they saw them, at that time, as allegorical or metaphorical or mythological as we do.
Ancient Medicine
Only about a hundred years ago, medicine was not nearly as advanced as it is now.
For example, the Romanov’s, the last Royal family of Russia, before the communist revolution, had a son who was a hemophiliac.
Since they were the richest family in the country, they could afford the very best medical care.
But they very best medical care for a royal family only a century ago is something we would consider barbaric and silly today.
Recent Science Discovery
Astrophysicists have discovered something particularly strange.
Before the big bang, there was absolutely nothing.
Then after the big bang, as the theory goes, space and time and matter and energy all expanded at the same time.
As it expanded, inside this quickly expanding bubble was all the space and time and energy and matter, and outside was nothing.
No space, no time, no energy, no matter.
Time Misunderstood
General relativity talks about time as an essential dimension, and together with space, we are really inside a sphere of space-time.
A black hole is a tight collection of matter, that creates such a strong gravitational pull that light cannot escape, hence the name.
The event horizon is the point beyond which nothing can escape, not even light.
But they are starting to suspect that there exists black holes made purely of time.
Dark Time
Of course, the term black hole is not appropriate for these dense sphere of time, but they do create some interesting distortions.
The theory is these may be what is currently referred to as dark matter and dark energy.
The things they can see the effects of, but they can’t detect it directly.
Second is instead of being crushed into nothingness once you pass the event horizon, you will be sucked into a small bubble of essentially a repeating time loop.
Self Repeating Cycles
This will be like a self-contained mini-universe inside which the continuous expansion of entropy is a never ending loop.
And if you are close to a time hole, you may have somewhat similar repeating cycles.
And since these effect the integrity of space time itself, if we are inside one, it may be impossible to detect.
This is why you may remember the same things over and over.
Does This Sound Familiar
Why you may come to the same conclusion over and over.
You may get a sense of Deja Vu even before something has happened.
Memory is a tricky thing to begin with.
You may think you remember something only to forget what it was that you weren’t expecting until after this happened.
Reverse Expectations
And some of the things you do remember might not turn out to be the way you’d hoped as you continue moving forward back into the past.
Which is why sometimes it may take a while to realize what is happening as you pass from the dreaming state into the waking state.
What they would do is stick his feet into a bird cage, and let the birds peck at the souls of his feet.
Seriously?
Today, this sounds ridiculous.
But in another hundred years, medical treatments today, that we think are cutting edge, will no doubt be regarded as barbaric.
It may very well be that ancient origin stories were believed, at the time, to be literally true.
Only today, when we have since, it’s hard to imagine this.
It could also be that in 1000 years, science may have advanced so much, that they’ll talk about relativity and quantum physics as if it’s some kind of mythology.
Correlations Are Easy
When a system is expanding, it’s easy to find plenty of correlating variables and come up with what you think is a causative reason.
But if the system starts to contract, and you cling to those incorrect and old causative reasons, you might get into deep trouble.
Because incorrectly assigning causation to correlating variables can be dangerous.
Especially if the correlating variables are doing so for their own reasons, and really just want to be left alone.
