Here’s a pretty neat trick you can use to build in some powerful resources. It requires a healthy dose of hallucination, and some daily practice. I’ve found (as have many others) that this can be pretty powerful in developing some “core” skills that can help you out in a variety of situations.
Now, keep in mind this is to develop some base skills, not something specific like being able to rebuild a 1965 Mustang engine while blindfolded.
This is to build in some really core qualities like bravery, sense of humor, resilience, etc that can help you in any area of life.
The first thing you’ll need to do is identify four broad “areas” that you’d like to improve in. These should have vague titles like, business, love, cunningness, etc.
Choose four that don’t really have much to do with each other.
After you’ve got all four picked up, choose four “characters” that have these qualities in spades. Now these characters can actually be real characters from history, or mythical characters from stories, or characters you’ve seen in a movie recently.
Like for being a better lover, for example, you might choose Johnny Depp’s character from Don Juan De Marco. Or if you wanted to increase your sense of playfulness, you might choose Bugs Bunny.
Remember, this is all a hallucination, so it doesn’t have to be perfect.
OK, got your four characters?
Next, stand in a relatively open area. Make sure there’s at least a couple meters open in all directions.
Now, figure out which way is North, South, East and West. Imagine yourself standing in the middle of a magical circle. And at each direction, stands one of your mythical characters.
Now, while you’re standing there, imagine that they are slowly walking in a circle around you, kind of guarding you against all the “evil” that exists out in the world. They take turns look out into the world, and then looking at you as if you let you know that they’ve got your back.
After a couple of minutes of this, have them stop, and turn so their backs are facing you.
Then you turn until you’re facing the back of one of them. Take a couple deep breaths, and “absorb” them into your body. As they move from where they are standing, to your body, should take a couple of breaths. Once they have “merged” with you, take another couple of deep breaths, and then move on to the next character.
Once you’ve done them for all four of them, now it’s your turn to slowly turn and face all the directions of the Earth. As you do so, imagine each one of them, inside of you, both looking out at the world, and to you as if they continue to “have your back.”
Take a deep breath, thank them for dedicating their lives to protecting and serving you, and get on with your day.
Try this every morning, or before a big meeting, or a big date, and see if it doesn’t give you a sudden burst of confidence.
