Groucho Marx is what you might call “a cunning linguist.”
I actually first heard that term in a James Bond movie.
Bond, James Bond, as talking to M, and M said something.
Mr. Bond made a clever reframe.
M said:
“Oh James, you were always a cunning linguist.”
As was Groucho Marx.

“Sincerity is the most important quality. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made.”
The idea about sincerity is pretty true.
Not really, it’s missing something.
If you are a sincere serial killer, that would make you dangerous.
If you CAN be a believably sincere actor, you can make a lot of money.
If you can be a believably sincere salesperson or seducer, you can convince a lot of people to do a lot of things.
This is “faking” sincerity with a specific outcome.
This is possible, but it takes a lot of practice and might turn you into a sociopath.
Somebody like Dexter who had to refer to a list of rules so he could pass as normal.
This is kind of like the idea about lying being wrong.
Not because it’s wrong in general, but as a strategy it’s REALLY difficult to keep track of all your lies.
If you are faking sincerity, it’s kind of the same.
Unsustainable
This is one reason why fake-sincerity driven relationships don’t last very long.
Even if you aren’t consciously or deliberately “faking sincerity,” this is what most people do anyway during the early parts of a relationship.
Putting their best food forward.
Purposely turning of what they think is “bad” or “unattractive” behavior.
That kind of “soft” “faked sincerity” is hard to keep up.
A much better and easier way so to simply be yourself.
Not your ideal self, or best self, but your REAL self.
Your REAL SELF that you are around close friends.
Where there is ZERO anxiety and you can have full access to your brain.
To respond QUICKLY with friendly jabs and put downs.
To respond QUICKLY with funny reframes about whatever problems they are having.

To respond QUICKLY to remind of THEIR best self when you need to.
Now, imagine if you could do this with strangers.
Gorgeous strangers.
Rich strangers.
Famous strangers.
Politically POWERFUL strangers.
