Here’s a pretty powerful exercise that works not like you think it will.
Whenever we go into situations where we’ll be discussing something with somebody, and the outcome isn’t yet determined, a couple of things will happen.
One is you’ve got some hopes about what you want to have happen, and you’ll also have some fears about what you don’t want to happen.
Second is that everybody, on an unconscious level, kinds of “sniffs out” the level of fear or confidence of others.
It’s a lot easier pressing a point and asking for what you want from somebody who’s shy and reserved than somebody who is projecting massive amounts of self confidence.
Here’s where the exercises come up. As much as you can, come up with the “worst case scenario” questions or objections that will likely come up. The ones you are most terrified of actually hearing.
If you are a salesperson, for example, think of the most horrifying objection. If you are picking up girls, think of the most in your face, horrifying frame test you wouldn’t know how to overcome.
Make sure you come up with some truly terrifying objections, and write them down. Then simply practice overcoming them, as often as you can.
Here’s the weird part. If you NEVER address them, and pretend they don’t exist, they’ll come up again and again.
But if you PREPARE for them so much you don’t mind if they come up or not, they will NEVER come up again.
It’s like everybody else can now sniff out your massive confidence, and they won’t “test” you at all.
What’s more, when you practice overcoming objections, any objections, with these language patterns, as part of your daily routine, you will soon become an unstoppable force of nature that will allow you to talk yourself into, and talk yourself out of, any situation that you want.
