Club Trip
A couple of weeks ago a new club opened downtown. I don’t usually go to clubs, but they’ve been heavily advertising this one for some reason. They’ve hired a lot of very attractive young women who have been handing out fliers.
And they’ve trained them very well. When they hand you the flier, they make very strong eye contact, and use a lot of collective pronouns. For example, instead of just handing to you, or handing it to you and say please come check it out, they’ll say, “I hope I’ll see you there,” or if they’re in a group they’ll say “we hope we’ll see you there.”
This is a sign of a good ad campaign. Something as simple as effective pronoun use and effective eye contact can make all the difference. Even though I knew they were doing that on purpose, it worked. I just had to check this out to see what this is all about.
Hitch a Ride
I decided I didn’t want to drive, for obvious reasons. I decided to take an uber, even though it was about a half hour ride. On the way there the guy was flipping through the different stations on the radio, and he came across a very familiar voice.
It was this guy that I hadn’t heard in a long time. He used to have a coast to coast radio show on AM, and it was usually late at night, and I only would hear him when I was driving through the middle of nowhere, when there was no other reception.
He would have all kinds of paranormal and conspiracy topics. Aliens, secret groups with secret powers, CIA mind control experiments. It was always interesting to listen to.
Entertaining Telepathy
But it was also pretty clear that he was doing it kind of for entertainment. I mean, I’m sure there were plenty of people who just naturally believe this. The kind of people who believe in conspiracies, or believe in alien abductions.
Or even believe that half the world government is secretly conspiring aliens, but it was also understood that this was just sensationalist stuff. That you weren’t supposed to take this seriously.
But the guy he had on then was way different. He claimed to be a time traveler from the distant future. Long after humans had evolved way past our current state.
Time Traveling Nutjobs
Of course, you can find these goofs all over YouTube if you look. So that’s what I thought this guy was. But then a few scientists called in, and tried to stump him. He knew the answer to all their scientific questions.
Even more, he didn’t hesitate. You can tell when somebody is pretending to know the answer, but this guy answered every scientific and mathematical question, quickly and directly.
He even gave a couple engineers some answers that they were looking for. It this was some kind of prank, it was extremely well thought out. But then he started talking about the future of the human race.
Not All That
In our current state, we aren’t nearly as evolved as we think. We are still primarily driven by our instints.We don’t like to admit this, but all our issues are because our consciously chosen desires are not congruent with our instincts.
We either want to do things like talk to attractive people, or make lots of money, or become more persuasive, but we have a lot of social fears that are essentially based on social instincts.
Or we want to not do things, we want to avoid eating too much, we want to avoid being lazy, we want to eat healthy food, we want to only do intellectually beneficial things but again, our instincts are getting in the way.
Future Is Bright
In 1000 years or so, we’ll have evolved very, very strong conscious minds. So strong that our conscious decisions will over power our deeper instincts. We’ll just make a conscious decision, and that conscious decision will give us the will power to just do this.
We can just decide to be confident. We can decide to be seductive. We can decide to make money. We can decide to be socially outgoing.
But the best part is we won’t be encumbered by language. Right now, we have thoughts, and we need to match the thoughts with words. Then we need to use words to explain our thoughts others.
Three Step Communication
And they have to take our words and translate them back into thoughts. This is a very inefficient process. This is why it takes so long for any new scientific ideas to get accepted. Because the process is so cumbersome there’s a lot of built in resistance.
But once we gain the ability to simply transmit thoughts directly, it will be much quicker, and much more efficient. This means that new scientific ideas will happen exponentially faster than now, and the technological advances will be equally quick.
If we think science has advanced quickly in the past couple hundred years, what’s coming in the next thousand years will be impossible to imagine. Even the most advanced science fiction is still based on our current level of thinking and communication.
Monkey People
He said the way people from a thousand years in the future think about humans today is very much like how humans today think about chimpanzees. That’s how much of a difference in communication and technology we’ll advance in the next thousand years.
I’m still not sure what to think about this. If this is a prank, this is a well thought out prank. But this guy was so sure of himself. So quick with answers to even the most technological questions.
We finally got to the club and I was hoping it would be as good as those attractive women suggested it would be. I ended up getting there way too early.
Out Of Club Shape
Like I said, I haven’t been to a club in a long, long time. I’d forgotten that things don’t get really exciting until later. I only stayed around for a couple of hours.
It was still a lot of fun, and there were some interesting and attractive people who started to trickle in. But I am just not in good shape when it comes to staying out late. At least not nearly as good as I used to be.
