Be Real
Groucho Marx famously said that sincerity is the most important thing in the world.
And if you can fake that, you’ve got it made.
The reason A list actors get paid so much is they are believable.
When they say their lines, we BELIEVE them.
They are absolutely congruent with their words and their emotions.
B list actors, who appear in bottom of the barrel streaming movies, are not congruent.
Sure they got the lines down, but the accompanying emotions don’t match the words.
If you were to take a beginning speech class, using gestures is one thing they would recommend.
Using gestures effectively is a sign of confidence.
That you are communicating with your whole body, not just the words.
And because beginning speakers are usually pretty nervous, they are ONLY focused on the words.
To the extent they DO use gestures, they are forced.
Pretend
Incongruent.
Not natural.
One of the reasons cats and dogs like certain people is they are both friendly and congruent.
If you are scared of dogs for whatever reason, you won’t be congruent.
You might pretend to like dogs if you’re at a friend’s house, but the dog will know what’s up.
You are a human who is hiding something.
Babies are the same.
If you are holding a baby and pretending to be OK, but are freaking out on the inside, the baby will know something isn’t quite right.
The reason adults love babies and young children is they ARE congruent.
They can’t NOT be congruent.
Nothing is more enjoyable to watch than a bunch of happy kids running around on the playground.
This is why natural players are not anything like the pretend players on TV.
The TV players are super serious, fake alphas that have “long wolf” James Bond feel to them.
Happy Life
But in real life, naturals are just like little kids.
They are happy.
They enjoy being themselves.
They enjoy life, they enjoy others and they are not afraid to let everybody know.
This is why A list comedians are so enjoyable.
They go through TONS of emotions and radiate those emotions with PURE congruence.
Compared to a typically nervous party goer who tries to tell a few jokes.
They fall flat.
They lack energy and enthusiasm.
If you are truly congruent, you don’t need to worry about words.
Your energy will do all the work for you.
You see a person who makes you feel good and you’ll automatically smile.
Which will make them automatically smile back.
Then you’re on your way to happy town.
