Contrary to what most people believe, politicians are NOT experts in NLP.
Now, most people think that simply because they’ve got so much persuasive power, they must have been trained in some kind of black magic arts of persuasion and influence, right?
Not really.
The thing about covert hypnosis and NLP is that it was reverse engineered, not created.
Meaning they found a bunch of people that were ALREADY highly skilled at this stuff, and then studied them from a linguistic perspective.
And many times, after “codifying” their language, they would show it to them, and the person whom they modeled had no idea they were doing “that.”
Another thing to consider, when talking about politics and persuasion, is the kind of persuasion that politicians use.
It’s NEVER one on one. It’s always to a HUGE group of diverse people, with diverse backgrounds, beliefs and desires. That’s why it’s almost always very vague.
They’ll say something like, “I’m in favor of education,” and pretty much everybody in the audience nods their head in agreement.
But “education” can mean pretty much anything to anybody.
If you were a victim of Pol Pot’s massacres, “education” meant “education camps” which meant death by starvation. Not exactly something to get excited about.
However, the kind of persuasive language taught in NLP is much more than conning large crowds with vague messages about vague wants and needs.
It’s about talking to people, one on one, and not only finding out EXACTLY what they want, but showing them how THEY can get it in a way that will help YOU get what you want. Creating that magical Win Win outcome that we all love so much. Everybody gets what they want, and everybody’s happy.
Regardless of WHO you speak with, clients, friends or lovers, this set of language patterns will make EVERYTHING seem much better.
