Being able to go back in time would be awesome. You could buy Microsoft or Home Depot when it was a dollar a share, or go back and say those things you wanted to say in those situations that you’d like to change.
Luckily, there are some things about your past that you can change. Actually, when it comes to YOUR past, and not THE past, you can change pretty much anything.
Why is this?
Because YOUR past exists in one place, and one place only.
Inside your head.
Sure, there are probably some “events” that happened back there, but are they really objectively true?
Human memory is extremely fallible. So much so that if all the police have is eyewitness testimony, then they know there’s no chance to catch the bad guy.
They’ve even done controlled studies where a “thief” stole a laptop from a professor. Now, even though all of the students were paying attention to the focal point of the “event,” nobody could really recall what the guy looked like.
In fact, descriptions including his ethnicity, were all over the place.
Do you think your memory is even more accurate?
The truth is that your memory is a collection of “meanings” that you assigned to “events.” Not only were those “meanings” constructed on the fly, but they were extremely subjective. Based on your best “guess” at the time.
Funny thing is that when we go through life, and get more experience, become older and wiser, so that we’re not so quick to add limiting “meanings” like we used to, those old memories are rarely upgraded.
That means that when you look out into the world today, you are basing your filters, or beliefs, on ideas, assumptions, and conclusions that you made YEARS ago.
Luckily, there’s a way to change this.
The truth about beliefs is that they are incredible flexible, like Silly Putty.
It doesn’t take much to flip ’em around a few ways to give you a better perspective.
You can do this with current beliefs, meanings you’ve put on “past” events, or even objections and limitations you find in others.
The truth is that these language patterns, designed to obliterated sales objections, can be used to obliterate pretty much any belief you come across.
Giving you incredible power and resourcefulness.
