Most folks have heard the saying that “you’ll see it when you believe it,” meaning that our mindset creates our reality.
The trouble is that many of us have beliefs about ourselves and our capabilities that don’t help us out so much. To make matters even worse, often times we don’t know what those beliefs are.
They operate below our conscious awareness, as filters. If you didn’t know you were wearing a pair of red glasses, you would actually think that everything looked red.
You wouldn’t be able to see the rich range of vibrant colors that really exist out there.
So, how do you put in a belief you KNOW will help you?
First, find a belief that you KNOW is true. Like, “the sun is a big hot fiery ball that keeps warm,” or “the Earth is a sphere,” or something like that. Something that you KNOW is true, but you could see how other people (like ancient cultures) would maybe think otherwise.
Then describe that belief in detail. How do you “see” it in your mind? Is it big or small? Is it close up or far away? Is it in color, or black and white? Is it a picture, or a movie? Is it loud, surround sound, or small tinny speakers? What is the “personality” of this belief?
Take your time, and get as much detail as you can. The more, the better.
Then, create a belief you’d like to be true. To start, choose an easy one, like “I can easily play the piano,” or “I can bowl a 200,” or “it’s easy to stop eating after 7 PM,” or something.
Then, simply take the characteristics from the belief you know is true, and build your new belief with the same qualities (e.g. sound, closeness, color quality, vibrancy, etc.)
Then simply take some time “seeing” your belief in your minds eye. As you see it, periodically say it out loud.
To help, see the belief you know is true (the sun or whatever) and say THAT out loud, and then switch to the new belief you’re creating, and say that out loud.
When you get the same internal “feeling” after saying each belief, you will have installed a new belief that will help you get more out of life.
