No Move
Most people are lazy.
Or rather, everybody is lazy.
This is good.
Very good.
If our ancestors weren’t lazy, we would have gone extinct.
We all have a collection of instincts that motivate us to get the most benefit for the least effort.
But we also have a collection of built in biases.
All this helped way back in the day.
When life was harsh, and our needs were simple.
Get enough food to not die.
Replicate enough to not go extinct.
Today, life is much, much more difficult.
These basic instincts that helped us in the past can destroy us today.
If you are a slave to your hunger instinct, for example, you’ll have issues with your health and your weight.
Another collection of instincts that are ruining us today are our social instincts.
Need Love
Way back in the day, our social instincts were critical.
An inter-tribal regulation system.
If you did something “good” you got positive social validation.
Which felt good.
Which motivated you to do more “good” things.
If you did something “bad” you got negative social validation.
This felt bad.
Which motivated you to stop doing this things.
But way back in the day, bad and good were very well defined.
Good things directly made life BETTER for others.
Like getting food, or protecting the tribe, or telling some helpful stories.
Bad things directly made life WORSE for others.
Not getting any food.
Letting a hungry tiger follow you home.
Not being able to start a fire.
Today we have those same instincts, but in a much different world.
Very little of what WE do directly impacts the lives of others.
Seemingly Not Needed
But these instincts are JUST as hard to manage as our hunger instincts.
We do ANYTHING to get positive social validation of any kind.
We do ANYTHING to NOT get negative social validation of any kind.
And with social media in the mix, life can slide down into chaotic mayhem.
Another collection of instincts that is highly correlated to our social instincts is our “romantic” or love instincts.
These are a combination of both.
Food and social signals.
Or status and social signals.
Way back in the day, the more food you got on a regular basis the more status you had.
What To Do?
Today, the world can be incredibly confusing.
What women want.
What men want.
How to get what you want.
But if you start with your basic instincts, and build from there, life can be much simpler.
Much more enjoyable.
Much happier.
