First Steps
A long, long time ago, I wrestled.
Way back in high school.
And one thing our coach drilled into us was to have a sequence of opening moves.
So as soon as the ref said “go,” we would fire off these two moves as quickly as we could.
But beyond that, whatever we did was based on what they did.
You can spend hours training in the gym, but if you never spar, you’ll be missing the biggest piece of the puzzle.
You can train on heavy bags, speed bags, jump rope, work with the heavy ball, etc.
But true practice comes when you are practicing with a real life opponent.
This is why sports are so fascinating.
Both to play and to watch.
The continuous unfolding of uncertainty.
Now, imagine this somewhat goofy scenario.
A young boxer wants to know the EXACT sequence of moves to “guarantee” a victory.
This would be impossible.
Impossible Strategies
Even if there were such a thing, everybody would copy it and EVERYBODY would have the same guaranteed sequences of moves that would allegedly guarantee a victory.
In the world of investing, they have what’s called “the bleeding edge.”
Anybody can look at a stock chart and imagine that it’s EASY to make money.
Plenty of companies that sell stock trading strategies leverage this imagination.
See these two lines?

Every time they cross, it’s either a sell signal or a buy signal.
So easy!
The problem is if there were such a “guaranteed” sure fire way to make money, NOBODY would sell it.
They’d use it to get themselves rich.

Sure, if you’re hanging out with your friends, and everybody knows everybody pretty well, it’s pretty easy to predict what people are going to say.
It’s pretty easy to predict how people will respond.
