Humor Instinct
Some people have a huge collection of jokes.
They hear them and they remember them.
They’ve got so many jokes in their brain, every time somebody refers to something, they’ve got a relevant joke.
“Hey, that reminds me of the one about the penguin who decided to become a carrot farmer…”
But some people are just funny.
They understand the structure of humor.
They don’t need to memorize jokes.
Something about their personality, or their brain, or something.
They can take any random statement and twist the crap out of it so it is funny.
Memorizing jokes is one thing.
Knowing when to tell those jokes is something else.
This is actually pretty difficult.
To understand the room enough so the jokes have a high probability of landing.
Funny Air
But somebody who can pull funny stories and reframes out of thin air is something entirely different.
It says a lot about your personality.
For one, it’s impossible to do this when you’re nervous.
So spitting spontaneously funny game indicates confidence.
A very attractive trait.
Spitting spontaneously funny AND uplifting game indicates not only confidence, but an understanding of human nature.
Imagine somebody is complaining about their boss.
And embedded in these complaints is a deeper idea that the boss is ONLY that way around the speaker.
Like the speaker feels singled out or something.
A non-funny reframe would be:
“Maybe he’s that way around everybody.”
A funnier reframe would be:
“Maybe when you talked to him he was seconds from crapping his pants from eating too much bean dip at the office party…”
That’s a funnier way of saying the same thing.
But it’s also a kind of post hypnotic suggestion.
Now every time they see their angry boss, they’ll imagine he’s about to crap his pants.
Doing this spontaneously will reveal a TON about you.
That you genuinely want to uplift people.
A very positive trait.
People Want You
That you like reframing things to make people feel better.
A very positive trait.
That you can help people see the world in a much friendlier way.
A very positive trait.
And you can do this spontaneously.
This is EXACTLY what people mean when they say they value people with a sense of humor.
A “sense” of humor.
Not a collection of memorized jokes.
But a conversational, interpersonal “sense” that makes everybody feel good because of you.
Become this person, and you’ll be an eagerly sought after guest at ANY party.
