The Ambiguity Attraction Pattern

We humans love ambiguity.
 
We love the feeling that we can decide what things mean.
 
We also love the feeling of figuring things out.
 
Not necessarily to get an objectively “correct” answer.
 
But to come up with answer we feel is the right answer, for us.
 
This is why we LOVE movies like Inception.
 
The final scene is ambiguous.
 
Did it mean, this, or that?
 
Once there was this guru.
 
Not a fake guru, a real guru.
 
Or, if you like, this can be any guru you like.
 
Since this guru exists only in the forthcoming metaphor.
 

Today’s Lesson

He had a class of guru’s-in-training before him.
 
He asked them, how many sides does a cube have?
 
A kid raised his hand.
 
Two, says the kid.
 
Explain, says the guru.
 
Inside and outside, says the kid.
 
Another kid’s shot up.
 
Four, says the kid.
 
Explain says the guru.
 
Front, back, left and right, the top and the bottom are not sides.
 
Another kid’s hand shot up.
 
Six says the kid.
 
Explain, says the guru.
 
Top side, bottom side, left side, right side, front side, back side.
 
Very well, says the guru.
 
Who’s right?
 

Um, Uh…

The kids were puzzled.
 
Every answer is correct, so long as you can support your answer.
 
Movies that purposely open themselves to interpretation are very well written.
 
To allow the viewer to OWN their answer.
 
And discuss it, and even defend it in discussions.
 
This is why “art” is art, and not science.
 
So long as you can support your interpretation it is YOUR interpretation.
 
There is a FANTASTIC way to create desire, for you, in others.
 
Using this ambiguity technique.
 

Show Don’t Tell

Most people try to give others reasons why they should like us.
 
We tell job interviewers WHY they should hire us.
 
We try and tell attractive people WHY they should date us.
 
But that’s not much of an art form.
 
How do you turn human desire into an art form?
 
Instead of telling them, ask them.
 
Not things about you.
 
Things about them.
 
Things they LOVE to think about.
 
Things they may never have given much thought to.
 

Build Big Brain Bliss

Big, powerful, compelling dreams of THEIR future.
 
This is much, much easier than most people will EVER realize.
 
But the consequences are even better.
 
They be feeling really, really good.
 
Because of you.
 
But that will be a very subconscious feeling.
 
One they’ll NEED to explain.
 
Like a beautifully written movie or a weird imaginary guru question.
 
And once they come up with a reason, it will be THEIR reason.
 
Not yours.
 
This will make their attraction for YOU a kajillion times stronger than any YOU could tell them.
