Rebel Kids
Once, way back in high school, my friend and I decided to rebel.
To stand up and get ready to leave algebra class BEFORE the bell rang.
This was a class where the teacher was pretty lazy.
He’d teach for the first half, and then let us “self study” for the second half.
Which meant for the second half, people would just talk and wait for the bell.
But my friend and I decide not to wait.
We were having a discussion about rules, authority, etc.
So we stood up a minute before.
We were expecting to get yelled at by the teacher.
But that’s not what happened.
What did happen was everybody copied us.
Rebel Leaders
Everybody else stood up.
The teacher seemed a bit confused, but didn’t say anything.
They’ve done all kinds of interesting experiments about stuff like this.
And the bottom line is most people DO NOT LIKE to think for themselves.
They either defer to authority figures, or the crowd, or both.
For example, they put one guy on a corner staring up at the sky.
Everybody looks at the guy.
But they put three people on the corner staring up at the sky, and everybody that passes by stares up at the sky.
The group slowly grows over time.
Once in the Soviet Union a guy did a similar experiment.
He decided to line up behind a random door.
Copy Cats
Pretty soon a line formed behind him.
Nobody knew why.
They just figured if others were lining up, they’d line up.
This is similar to the movie, “Catch Me If You Can.”
A true story about a guy who talked his way into all kinds of situations.
Because HE believed it, so did everybody else.
This is the secret of authority.
Most people are waiting around being told what to do.
So all you need is just a lightly stronger frame than them.
A slightly stronger belief in yourself than them.
Which is very, very easy these days.
Authority Energy
What do you get when you radiate authority?
You’ll radiate a different kind of energy than everybody else.
A much more attractive kind of energy.
So when people are around you, they’ll voluntarily shut off their brains and follow your brain.
This is why cults form around the goofiest beliefs.
It’s not the beliefs.
It’s the authority of the cult leader.
Cult Status
People LOVE being around a strong leader.
Be that strong leader, and enjoy being worshipped.
