Rulers and Workers
One of my favorite lines is from an old Clint Eastwood movie.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
A couple of guys chasing after some gold hidden somewhere.
The good guy was Clint Eastwood.
He and the ugly guy were more or less working together.
The bad guy was chasing them, hoping to get the gold before they did.
In one of the many reveals near the end, with the bad guy dead and the two guys left, the ugly guy tried to double cross the good guy near the end.
But the good guy (Clint Eastwood) had secretly taken the bullets out of the ugly guy’s guy.
And when the ugly guy realized his gun empty, the good guy delivered the famous line:
“There are two kinds of people in the world.
Those with loaded guns, and those who dig.
You dig.”
This is a perfect metaphor for society.
In Every Society
Society today, and society since the dawn of time.
Those who hold power.
Those who do the work.
Those who take advantage of overs.
And those who are taken advantage of.
For a few lucky people, there is kind of a safe middle ground.
Not a lot of power but not really worried about those in power.
Where you can get it done on your own.
Historians believe that before the Industrial Revolution, about 90% of people were slaves of some kind or another.
Outright captured slaves.
Do what I tell you or I’ll kill you.
Or serfs.
Give me 10% of your monthly yield, or I’ll give you a beat down.
Or debt slaves.
Pay me back what you owe me or I’ll take your land.
Even in modern times, financial warfare is being waged all around us.
Scamming Scammers
Governments do it to other governments.
Governments do it to their own citizens.
Citizens do it to other citizens.
Ever since the dawn of time, scammers and con artists have been taking advantage of others.
PT Barnum famously said their is a sucker born every minute.
Why are we suckers?
Because we believe things that are too good to be true.
Lose weight while you sleep?
Sign me up!
Make massive money on auto pilot?
I’m in!
One secret trick to get her panties wet?
Let me at ’em!
All these people who believe in “to good to be true” cons have something in common.
Short Term Trap
The same thing that makes them believe in short term fixes.
The same thing that keeps them STUCK in the short term world.
But if you can escape from this short term world, you’ll see much farther.
You’ll be able to see much more profitable, longer term solutions.
You’ll be able to see and play the long game.
And leave all the short term ideas behind.
