When we are children, we have a simple strategy for getting what we need.
Keep asking until somebody gives it to us.
Then we make a transition.
Or we used to, way back in the caveman days.
The transition meant a shift in how we got our needs met.
We shift from asking or begging or throwing temper tantrums to actively creating.
Ideally, this is how the world would work.
Keep in mind, this is the ideal, NOT the reality.
And likely never WILL be the reality.
Imagine a society filled with fully responsible adults.
We want something, we need to buy it.
Earn To Spend
So we get a job, trading our skills for income.
We get the income, and go and buy what we want.
If we want more money, it’s up to us to increase our skills so we can get more money.
This is not easy.
This is not guaranteed.
But this is how life works.
The reality is we live among very scarce resources.
The “better” the thing is that we want, the more competition there will be.
If a girl or is super hot, super high quality in all areas, there will be a LOT of competition for that person.
And among all the competition, that high quality person will choose the best.
If a job has a lot of pay, a lot of benefits, a nice corner office, there will be a LOT of competition.
And among all that competition, the company will hire the best.
This means in an ideal life there is never ending competition.
Just like there has always been.
Even way back in the caveman days, the top hunters got top hierarchy and status and top attraction from all the ladies.
Every day was a hunting contest.
Or, a production contest.
Who could “produce” the most meat.
Something EVERYBODY wanted.
When we are children, there many other people who are more powerful than us.
And we live and die by how well they provide for us.
We are helpless.
We cannot control our lives very much.
But when we grow up, we make that transition.
It’s not easy.
It’s not guaranteed.
Today, very few people make that transition.
We still act like children.
We want, so we wait around until somebody gives it to us.
Or makes it easy to get.
And we also have a lot of baggage.
Memories of going after things we wanted, only to be told no.
So when it comes to being fully adult, we have a lot of headwinds.
Which is why so few people actually build a life worth living.
