OG Tragedy
Once there was a dude named Aeschylus.
And old Greek guy.
Considered the “father of tragedy.”
Meaning he was one of the original dudes who created the classic “Tragedy” style plays.
The kinds that led to Catharsis among the population.
One of my favorite quotes of his is:
“Memory is the mother of all wisdom.”
What does this mean?
Consider two people.
One guy learns only from books.
The other guy learns only from experience.
The first guy reads something in a book, tries it, but it doesn’t work.
So he buys another book and tries that.
And he keeps buying books hoping he’ll find the one “magical step by step system” that will get him what he wants.
What about the second guy?
Experience Only
He learns from experience.
He tries something, and it doesn’t work.
So he goes home and thinks about it.
He examines his experience.
The things that exist in his memory.
The more experience he gets, the more stuff and ideas exist in his memory.
After a while, he’s got a HUGE databank of ideas and strategies and patterns in his brain.
So when he’s out mixing it up at parties and what not, he’s got a HUGE databank of information to help him.
Of course, this all operates mostly subconsciously.
From his perspective, he just keeps getting better and better.
Remember Aeschylus.
Wisdom doesn’t come from books, or gurus, or influencers.
It comes from memory.
Your memory.
Get In The Game
A memory built by participating in life, not watching it from the sidelines.
Memory, of course, is part of your brain.
Your most precious asset.
The part you use to pay attention to what people are saying.
To pay attention to how they are saying it.
To pay attention to what they are not saying.
To pay attention to the words they say with confidence, and the words they say with a bit of anxiety.
To pay attention to all their movements and micro-movements while they are speaking.
Most people only pay attention to the words.
Most people are watching the world through a thick filter based on what they HOPE or THINK will happen.
Not you.
With your clear and powerfully observant mind, you can pay attention to what is really happening.
Smooth Operator
So you can operate much more effectively.
Much more elegantly.
