Winchester Mystery House
One of the weirdest ghost stories that is sort of true is the Winchester House.
The lady who married the guy who got rich by inventing the Winchester gun got worried that all the ghosts from people killed by that gun were going to come after her.
She she figured she’d build a huge house to keep the ghosts from killing her in her sleep.

A couple and a half thousand years ago the Greeks invented or discovered something called Catharsis.
A way of experience some pretty rare and powerful emotions without having to actually go through the life events that normally create these emotions.
Today we can experience that by going to the movies or watching TV.

Probably the easiest way to experience some powerful emotions would be to watch horror movies, of which, luckily, there are plenty.
There’s this guy that made a ton of money a couple of times by creating some simple devices and then licensing them.
Now he gives plenty of money to charities, mostly doing things for kids and the underprivileged.

He really likes helping people and he likes to raise tons of money for charities, but he absolutely hates the people who come to his charity events.
He’s got this huge house where he holds a lot of these events, and he’s built a special torture chamber for a few select elite types.
Of course, it doesn’t look anything like a torture chamber.
Labyrinth of Fun
It’s like a multi-level labyrinth beneath his house, that is set up to look like a complex series of interconnected game rooms.
Normally, you can just wander around and have fun.
Music rooms, a few music lounges, some virtual reality game centers, a couple of pool rooms, etc.
Elite Competition
But he’s carefully created a set of false rumors that during his benefits, when all the rich people come to his house, only the elite of the elite can access his labyrinth.
So it’s among these top tier elites, having an experience in this multi level game room is a very powerful signaling device.
This is just how he wants it.
He wants his parties filled with elites that will compete with one another in their upper class snobbery to see who wins and gets access to this labyrinth of fun.
Unleash The Insanity
Once they go down there, they are slowly made to go insane.
The rooms all have silent subliminals pumped into them, so these elites will feel like they are being chased by demons.
The mirrors are carefully set up with advanced AI to flash images of their reflections but altered so their faces look split wide open.
LSD In The Air
Careful mists are sprayed to give them several doses of LSD.
This implanted insanity, by way of the silent subliminals will get stronger and stronger.
He collects a lot of money, and drives a lot the upper level elites insane while doing so.
Chilling Downstairs
Of course, when his friends are hanging out, the game room is just a game room.
But most of the time, they watch hidden camera videos of the rich people running around, imagining they are being chased by demons.
If you watch a lot of horror movies, you’ll find the same basic archetypes and situations to create the most bang for your buck.

Angry ghosts, demons that have latched on to your soul, aliens that have targeted you for abduction and experimentation, etc.
She must be insane, because her plan doesn’t really make any sense from anybody’s perspective.

If it were a regular house, with a lot of regular rooms, all with private baths, for example, it might make sense.
Meaning Mrs. Winchester could let the ghosts stay there or something.
But the Winchester mystery house if famous for having doors that open into walls, stairs that go nowhere, and windows that are made out of bricks, like on Maggie’s farm.
