Big History
If you study big history, you’ll see plenty of similarities between all major civilizations.
Doesn’t matter where or when they are, they all share many similarities.
For example, you’ll find pyramids in plenty of cultures. Egyptian, Meso-American and ancient Greece.
Another common trait is how they modified the environment to maximize the number of calories they could get out of the ground.
Story Structure
A meta similarity is the story structure. The type of heroes and myths they would tell each other.
A kind of way to create a set of imaginary role models to use to guide them through life. This started way before recorded history.
Funny thing is that this same structure happens in modern life. The Hero’s Journey has three stages.
Three Stages
The orphan stage, when the hero is forced out of his or her comfort zone.
The wandering stage when they are kind of stumbling along, learning skills and making friends.
The warrior stage when they finally figure out what needs to be done
We all go through these stages several times in modern life.
Being born, going to school, having a relationship, starting a career, starting a family.
All Hero’s Journey Structures
They all match the hero’s journey perfectly.
One common trait of ancient societies was the hierarchical structure of society.
The people at the top demanded tribute from the people at the bottom.
In every society that has ever existed, the power structure always collected taxes.
Sometimes this was to store the grain, in case of famine or drought.
Pay Your Taxes
Other times this was financial.
They created their organizational structures very much like they created the physical structures, like pyramids.
Which raises the question. Is the world a certain way, and we keep seeing the same structures over and over?
Or is our brain configured a certain way, and all we can see is that which resonates with our brain structure?
Chicken and Egg Syndrome
Is our brain structured so all we can see are hierarchies and hero’s journey’s everywhere we look?
What would a differently structured brain see?
What if there were many parallel realities and many different entities living within the same realities, unaware of each other.
Dark Universe
Physicists tell us that 90% of the universe is dark energy and dark matter.
What if there are several different realities co-existing, and we can only see what our neurological structure allows us to see?
