Who’s He?
A long time ago I was at this open house.
A Japanese style Buddhist church.
Not sure if “church” is the right word.
But I checked it out, and it was a version of Buddhism invented by a Japanese couple (husband and wife) a few decades earlier.
And for whatever reason, they moved to Souther California.
With many of their followers.
It sort of sounds the beginnings of a cult, but as far as I could tell, they were pretty normal.
The differences between that particular style of Buddhism, as far as I could tell, were more or less like difference in various Christian churches.
The reason I went was I saw a flier up in a donut shop.
The donut shop I ended my morning run at, where I relaxed for a bit, drank some coffee and flirted with the cute girl who worked there.
And on my daily run, on the way from my house to the donut shop, I passed by this weird looking building on a big, and every expensive piece of land.
Which, of course, was the Buddhist church in question.
Anyhow, when I was at the open house, looking around I saw this dude come in.
He had a couple of people with him.
I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
But this dude was the most charismatic person I’d ever laid eyes on.
Sure, others seemed to have a lot of charisma, outward social energy, but that was always in a different context.
Like you see a guy maybe running some game on a couple of sexy ladies.
He’s smiling, they’re smiling, etc.
It’s very hard in that context to see his charisma OUT of that context.
Anybody that’s having a friendly conversation with a couple of smiling sexy ladies is going to look like boss.
What’s His Story
But this guy wasn’t gaming anybody.
Just checking out a Buddhist church.
He was a tall guy, wearing a decent suit, with a pretty decent face.
But he had a kind of energy that was very, very attractive.
No idea how I would describe that other than vaguely.
And in some Buddhist sect open house is the LAST place you’d expect to find Mr. Charisma.
Then I saw he was wearing a name tag.
When I got close enough to look, it explained everything.
He was the city mayor.
So his whole career was spent giving speeches and persuading people from the stage.
And he was the mayor, he had a unique experience.
Of standing up on stage, persuading people to vote for him, and then getting elected.
And unless you commit some horrible crime, this is a very, very self sustaining kind of confidence.
You have an expectation people will look at you a certain way.
Deep Love
And they look at you a certain way.
You see a stranger, and you absolutely KNOW that if you smile at them, they’ll smile back.
This kind of charisma is FAR more attractive than mere looks.
Yes, this dude was attractive.
Yes, this dude had on a nice suit.
But that’s secondary to his personality.
Luckily, if you have enough personality you don’t need a suit or looks.
Just show up and radiate.
