80-20
The Pareto Principle is a vicious idea.
A horrific idea.
It says that 20 percent of any system does eighty percent of the work.
What the heck does this mean?
Suppose you counted all the players and all the points scored in the NBA for 2021.
You’d find that (roughly) 20% of the players scored 80% of the points.
And in that top 20%, you get another 80-20 split.
Meaning that 20% of 20%, or 4% would score 80% of 80%, or 64% of the points.
There is a very common idea today that everybody “should” get the same stuff.
But this is impossible.
Pareto is everywhere.
Points scored by NBA players.
Books sold by novelists.
Movies watched, songs listened to, and yes, money made.
And if you want to be even MORE depressed?
Combine this with the dismal science.
There’s More!
Economics.
The forces us to accept that we live in a world with LIMITED resources.
Everybody would like to have a nice house on the beach.
How many people WANT a nice house on the beach?
How many actual houses on the beach are there?
Everybody would love to have a sweet job.
How many of those jobs are available?
How many people want those jobs?
Everything that YOU want, is also wanted by a ton of other people.
That one cutie on the other side of the bar?
EVERYBODY would like to sweep her off her feet and take her home.
How many people WILL do that?
How many people CAN do that?
Zero Fairness
Life is ABSOLUTELY not fair.
If you think or hope or expect it to be, you’ll be let down.
No matter how old you are, what your experiences are, how much you have or haven’t accomplished, you will want things.
Things that others want.
Things that are scarce.
Not in unlimited supply.
This is the human condition.
This has been the human condition.
This will be the human condition.
Luckily, YOU have an advantage.
What, Dear Reader, is that advantage?
Lazy Competition
Most people today are lazy, entitled and expect to be GIVEN stuff.
For the most part, these are your competitors.
Which makes it a lot easier on you.
So, why not develop the ONE skill that few people lack?
The skill that binge watchers and short term thinkers lack.
The skill of the LONG GAME.
To plan and live your life, rather than sit around and hope to be GIVEN all the good stuff.
Living the long game will make you more satisfied, more successful, and more attractive.
