Peak Brain

February 16, 2020 By George Hutton Last update: February 16, 2020

Tension and Release

Tension and release can be found everywhere, from inorganic matter, to large celestial objects like the sun.

Books, movies and music all have tension and release built into the structure.

Even humor is based on tension and release, and is thought to bring many health benefits, such as lower blood pressure and stress.

Basic Physics Easy

If you were to study basic physics in high school, it would be pretty simple.

Two particles, each with two different masses and velocities, moving only in one dimension is all you need to understand the law of conservation of momentum.

But once you get into two dimensions and begin adding things like friction, this suddenly becomes much more complicated.

Tulip Mania

One of the most famous financial bubbles of all time was the Tulip bubble.

At first, people started buying tulips because they looked cool.

Then people started buying tulips not because they wanted the tulips, but because they knew they could sell them to somebody else at a higher price.

Once the mania hit, the price kept going up, and as the price kept going up, it sucked in more people, which made the price keep going up, which sucked in even more people.

Accelerated Learning

There was a scientist for the CIA that was supposed to create an accelerated learning system.

The idea was that if they could train their agents to learn as much as possible in a very short amount of time, they could be much more effective.

So he figured out a way to hypnotically rewire our learning and memory instincts.

He wanted to take the structure of our eating instinct, where the more we eat, the more we want to eat, and apply this to learning.

Learning Creates Learning

He also wanted to intermix this structure with the natural feedback loop, of good feelings upon success and bad feelings upon failure.

This would give the learner a short burst of pleasure when they would remember something, which would significantly increase their desire to learn more.

This would accelerate how much they learned, which would accelerate how much they felt this learning pleasure, which would further enhance this cycle.

Something Else Is Happening Here

Only he miscalculated the deeper, second order learning capacity of our neurological structure.

It would always start out fantastically.

They would take about a week to get through an advanced graduate level textbook on advanced science and mathematics.

Increasing Information Consumption

Then they’d go through the next textbook in a few days.

Then the next textbook in a few hours.

Pretty soon they were eagerly soaking up as much information as they possibly could, entire college degrees within hours.

But then something would happen.

Peak Brain

They would reach a peak, when they were using all their mental capacity, but still wanting to use more mental capacity.

That’s when something would pop, and all their neurons would shut off.

They would collapse, and when they’d wake up, they would have total amnesia.

You wouldn’t remember anything that happened before this.

You would even be able to understand these words being spoken.

Blah Blah Blah

The sounds you are hearing would seem familiar, but the deeper meaning would forever be lost.

After several agents went insane, they abandoned the program.

Very much like a wave crashing on the beach, it keeps building.

But as it keeps building, it sucks in more water.

Limits To Growth

Once all the water is sucked in, it crashes.

And once the tulip mania sucked in all the potential investors, it crashed.

It took the economy about ten years to recover from the crashing of the most famous financial bubble in history.

Complicated Physics

Once you get outside of the classroom and into the real world, physics starts to bump up against the upper limit of mathematics.

That’s when chaos theory kicks in and even the most powerful supercomputers can only guess what is going to happen next.

Even more interesting is that all complex systems are driven by multivariable, interdependent, partial differential equations.

And nearly all partial differential equations either have zero solutions, or only partial solutions under certain, very constrained circumstances.

We Could Vanish

Which means the entire existence of the entire universe can suddenly end without warning.

Once you tune more mind for tension and release, you’ll see it everywhere.

Even in the lamest TV shows and movies.

Good Bad Good Bad

Something good will be followed by something bad.

Cycles are also everywhere.

All societies rise and all societies fall.

All stories have beginning parts, and all stories have final parts.

Because once something is started, this must end.
