Health Boom
I read an interesting study the other day that wanted to find any correlation between recent health food trends and the actual health benefits of the food trends.
The assumption was that there would be at least some correlation between how popular any particular diet was, and how beneficial it was from a pure health standpoint.
It was one of those studies that is a meta study, in that it depends on previously done research that already exists.
Elite Trends
A very interest cycle can be found in trends within any society any time period of history.
The top tier elites first adopt a new trend, usually a clothing style of a manner of speech.
Then this trends makes it way down the riff raff, at which point the elites need to create a new style, as the elites always need to differentiate themselves from the riff raff.
Cake Shop
There’s this really strange cake shop in my neighborhood.
They only make custom cakes, and they only use raw, unprocessed ingredients, which means their cakes are rarely sweet.
But the strangest thing is that there cakes are between 3 and 5 thousand dollars a piece.
Magic Shop
There’s a magic shop nearby where my friend’s sister used to live.
In the front, they have regular magic stuff.
Books, pre set tricks, several training DVD’s etc.
Secret Back Room
But they also have a back room.
The back room is hidden, and the only way to know that it exists is to receive an invitation from the owner.
And to get invited, you must pass several criteria.
Entrance Criteria
One is you must be a long time customer of the shop.
Two is you must be a professional stage magician.
Not as a side job, or as a hobbyist, or even a YouTube magician.
Live Shows Only
You must earn the bulk of your income by doing live shows.
But you also have to have solid moral character.
They discern this by doing background checks, and by carefully watching how you interact with your audience.
Once you pass these tests, they give you an invitation to the back room.
Real Ancient Magic
And in this back room, they will teach you real magic.
Ancient magic this is only alluded to.
Levitation, mental teleportation, remote viewing and remote influence.
The reason they have such high criteria is they want to make sure you will have a very low probability of actually using this magic.
Soul Corruption
Because once you actually use this magic, it will inevitably corrupt your soul.
And your heart will turn so black, you will soon only be capable of enjoying the suffering of others.
So this inner circle of white magic occultists have to transfer this pure magic from generation to generation without creating the inevitable planetary disasters.
Back Brain Power
But paradoxically, just knowing that this real magic exists, makes these stage performers much more charismatic in their illusions.
And it also destroys their desire for fame.
Which is why any illusionist that has ever been on TV has not passed the backroom criteria.
Wealthy Cult Members
Their main customers are naturalists and occultists.
They use their product mainly in very small and private rituals.
Most of their members are very wealthy, and buying strange cakes from this cake shop is a kind of signaling device, to indicate they are wealthy.
Whether they became wealthy because of their cult, or whether they created their cult because they were wealthy is not clear.
Elite Escape Velocity
A very strange trend has been happening in the few decades or so.
Before, the wealthy have always needed to create new trends.
Styles of dress, and styles of speech are easily copied by lower classes.
But now, due to our complex monetary system, the wealthy can choose styles that are unaffordable to the masses.
Uncopyable Elite Trends
Which means they never have to worry about the riff raff copying their signals of wealth and affluence.
This permanent barrier between rich and poor is the exact thing that led to the idea of democracy.
When monarchy was popular, you were either born into nobility or born into poverty.
End Of Democracy
The invention was the promise that anybody could be king, regardless of their birth.
But since this permanent barrier seems to be back, social scientists believe a violent upheaval is not far behind.
Surprisingly, they found zero correlation.
Health Trends Not Healthy
The health trends become popular for reasons other than their health benefits.
These are things like social proof, celebrity endorsements, and signals of status.
Which means even something that is basic as food is something that can be used to signal status and wealth.
