Lazy Monkey People
Humans are basically lazy.
That’s a good thing.
All animals have evolved a max ROI instinct.
To spend as little effort as possible, to get as much return as possible.
Monkeys climb the shortest trees to get the fattest bananas.
Birds of prey get the fattest fish swimming closest to the surface.
Ancient traders that came together wanted to give as little as possible and get as much as possible.
But they also realized the importance of maintaining good relationships with their trading partners.
When we are constrained this way, this “lazy” instinct is expressed by creating maximum efficiency.
This has been the driving force of innovation.
Sometimes thought, this is kind of hard to understand.
True Not True
A lot of self help ideas are absolutely true, but at the same time really, really easy to misunderstand.
Easy to misunderstand because of our lazy instinct.
For example, a lot of self help ideas are centered around the idea of “deserving.”
People go to hyped up seminars and spend their time whooping and hollering about how much they “deserve” love and riches etc.
This is true.
You cannot get riches or love or sex or ANYTHING unless you feel you deserve it.
But a feeling of deserving is ONLY a starting point.
This is the paradox of modern self help.
It’s really only PRETEND self help.
Imaginary Self Help
Self delusional self help.
For example, suppose you are walking down the street.
And you see a $20 on the ground.
Do you feel you deserve that money?
For most people, this isn’t even a question.
You smile, reach down and grab it.
Would you need to pump yourself up by chanting:
“I deserve this money…” a million times?
No.
This is the secret of TRUE deserving.
If you feel you really deserve something, you don’t need to ask yourself if you deserve something.
The action required to get the thing is NATURAL.
Automatic.
If you go to a coffee shop and buy a drink, when they call your name, do you feel you DESERVE what you paid for?
Again, a silly question.
Because deserving happens on an UNCONSCIOUS level.
Kind of like a famous line from plenty of movies:
“Hey, how much is this?”
“If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.”
Screaming And Hollering
So when people go to these goofy rah-rah seminars and scream and holler about how much they DESERVE riches and love, they’re trying VERY HARD to convince themselves.
But consider how you feel when you go shopping.
Do you have to stop and ask yourself if you DESERVE the right to buy a box of frozen burritos?
No.
Because a true feeling of deserving lives deep in your subconscious.
And drives your actions to get the stuff you want.
WITHOUT any fear or anxiety or any need to “pump yourself up.”
And building up THAT sense of deserve is a pure inner game.
A very easy, comfortable inner game.
