Three Ingredients
You can get anything you want, so long as you have the three necessary ingredients.
And often, only two is enough.
One is you need the raw materials.
Two is you need the skills.
Three is you need the belief that it is possible.
For example, suppose you’re hungry, and you want to make a grilled cheese.
So long as you have a stove, a frying pan, some bread, cheese and butter, you can make a grilled cheese.
Even if you don’t have the skills, you can copy some dude on YouTube.
You would need the belief, but here’s the thing.
Generally speaking, when you believe you can do something, it doesn’t really come across as having a belief.
Since beliefs generally live deep in your subconscious.
We don’t tend to think in terms of beliefs of things we can do.
We just get a kind of feeling that it’s easy.
But suppose you wanted to cook something much more complicated?
Something you’d NEVER cooked before.
Maybe you watched some dude on YouTube cook something that looked absolutely delicious, but really complicated.
Go Shopping
You could easily get the raw materials.
And you would look into your brain, and see how many times you’ve learned to do things.
And since it was a basic sequence of steps, even if they were complicated, you would BELIEVE that you could learn how.
Sure, it might not come out as perfect as YouTube guy’s outcome.
But a lack of belief in your ability wouldn’t hold you back.
This is generally how new beliefs are naturally formed.
You don’t necessarily believe you CAN do something, but you believe you can learn.
This is how our brains work.
Usually.
We look forward and keep learning things we want to learn.
The problems come when we miss critical steps.
Or we try too fast.
Like if you tried to replicate YouTube guy’s dish, but decided to combine or even skip a few steps.
It would come out pretty horrible.
Too Many Variables
This is why beliefs about social situations seem so different.
Most people are skipping a TON of steps.
But as they say, you gotta learn to walk before you can run.
And the slower you learn to walk, the more competent of a runner you’ll be.
And because strong social skills are probably one of THE most important skills you could ever learn, maybe look at them a little different.
Not something to hurry up and learn.
But something to continuously and slowly get better at.
For the rest of your life.
To consistently get better results.
For the rest of your life.
